Once on the Lynn Peak trail be ready for a solid climb for the first hour then after a little reprieve your back at it. As everyone mentioned there is lots of rocks and roots so this is way better for hiking than it is trail running.. Take your time, put in the work and enjoy the view of North Vancouver and beyond.

Early May. Was my first trip up a proper peak. Fantastic. Went with a friend on a Wednesday morning and saw just two others on our way down. About 3.5hrs total. Only one small patch of snow near the top, none on the trail itself.

I did this hike by myself yesterday. I'm not an avid hiker so took me longer than the average 2.5-3 hrs mentioned in the other comments. That being said I think the trail is accessible to all fitness levels. It is a rocky dried up river bed with a reasonably difficult incline, but as long as you have decent hiking boots and watch out for loose rocks it's doable.

If you get a spot in the front parking lot you can shave a couple kilometers off he distance of this hike. One you step off the Lynn Loop trail onto the Lynn Peak trail it is 6.4km round trip to the top and back. The 720m of elevation gain starts out quickly and the root and boulders everyone speaks of are coupled with the bulk of the elevation gain in the first half of the hike. Once you get through that its much more manageable as you make you way to peak. This hike deserves the hard rating but it’s not a race. Go at your own pace and you’ll be fine.

May 5. Did this hike with a couple of friends, and although we had to park in the overflow lot, we didn’t really encounter many people. One small section (less than 100m) had a bit of snow, but nothing significant. Hiked it in shorts and a t-shirt and hiking shoes, no crampons or microspikes necessary. Beautiful view, a decent amount of elevation without being an outdoor staircase (see: Grouse Grind), and the scenery along the trail made well worth the trip.

April 21. From first and furthest overflow parking lot to top and back to car in exactly 3 hours. Very rocky (dry river bed). Going up is ok, it’s like an easier and longer Grouse Grind. Coming down sucks as you have to really watch your step as to not fall on the lose rocks. The view up top is pretty, nothing special though in my opinion so wasn’t worth the climb for me. Usually don’t hike around Vancouver because too many people but not a lot of people were on this one so that was nice. Lots of snow up top still but had no problem in my hiking boots.

Ran out of Battery before recording 2nd half. Great hike! Felt intermediate with a challenging incline. Stopping alone the way for water breaks made it very manageable. Some rocky paths, snow at the top. Crampons were a huge help, not required but definitely made ascending and descending on packed snow. Great view!

Challenging and rewarding hike. Excellent view from the top.
Make sure to allow plenty of time if hiking later in the day because the car park shuts promptly at 9pm.

Nice clear markers. The road to park closer to the trail head is closed it's an extra 20 min walk to get to the Lynn Loop. Nice steady incline, little sketch going down cause of all the rocks. Went early, basically no people at all!

Did this on July 3rd, clear path, well marked, a bit challenging but nothing crazy.
Took us just over an hour each way.
Gorgeous view from top!

Great view at the top, challenging loose steep rock terrain for the first half. No snow in sight

A good early season peak, moderately trafficked and basically snow free by the end of May. However, the trail resembles an old creekbed for most of the way and the loose rock and can be difficult for footing. Hiking boots are highly recommended. There are a handful of limited vistas on the trail, but the end of the trail offers great views of Mt. Baker, Burnaby Mountain, and the Second Narrows Bridge.

5-hours round trip, steep and with abundance of loose rocks, some muddy and nearly no-through spots in trail. Trail is entirely within the woods with few vista points. Vista at the top was somewhat worth it.

-Steep uphill sections. Great alternative to Grouse.
-Very rocky.
-Path was always clear.
-Maintenance spotty in parts
-End vista point and a few peekaboo views, mostly interior of forest.

This hike was not overly long not was it short. There were a few challenging spots but over pretty well rounded. If you have knee or joint issues be aware the decent is not very kind on your body. Took about 4 hrs from the parking lot to the top and back again.

Hiked up there in mid May. The trail was clear and the weather could not have been better. Nice workout on a Saturday morning. Less crowded and less commercial than Grouse Grind.
Will do it again.

Just did the Lynn Peak today it was awesome! Very challenging terrain but rewarding once you finished. Nice work out for the cardio. Will definitely do it again!

Great view from the top of the city below... Not sure what everyone's beef is. The hike up is rough but the hike down is worse... Most of the trail is loose rock material making traversing down a little bit challenging. Good trail overall, measured from parking lot to peak it's 11.5km not 9

it's a good workout, but the view is pretty lame considering the effort put in. Much better hikes out there. Try coliseum!

Excellent hike done in perfect weather. Early May 2015. Agree only one good look out but get up there alone and the rocks on top are serene and provide a great place to crash and relax for an hour. View is actually pretty good on a good day but I can imagine it being a little too distant if cloudy.

Steady climb.. Agree that for the amount of work, the reward is average. A better view from Dog Mountain in all honesty.

Good hike took about 3:30 with plenty of stops. Downside is there is only one really good view, when you get to the top. Hiked it in November and trail was still in good enough condition just a little muddy. Would recommend hiking boots or gators if hiking in fall months.
