SnowshoeingIcySnow

First 8km of road were deceiving... we were able to drive up 15 km before having to go back, snow on the road is deep with an icy base, couldn’t turn around had to backdown for 3km before it was safe to turn around... guess I’ll be coming back next year... was beautiful nonetheless

Snow

Tried to hike this today but at the 8km mark of Kokanee Glacier Rd, the very nice man grading the road encouraged as to turn around as the snow line starts at 10km (trail head at 16km) and 2 days ago the snow was too deep that a lady's car went off the road...took 2 tow trucks, one to brace the other, to retrieve it. We had an AWD Toyota Venza but it has low clearance. If you have a 4WD and high clearance you MIGHT make it to the trail head to hike in deep snow.

trail was in great shape, not busy at all, it is an incline most of the way to the lake. the lake is so beautiful! saw a marmot! the one bad hill on the road with deep ruts, if you stick to the very right, you can get around it. started at 10 done by 245, with a few breaks cause....incline haha

Fantastic hike, went all the way up to the Tip of the glacier, which is 1 hour 30min from the cabin. Trail is in good condition, most of the way is nice and flat. It's around 11.5km of walk from the trail head, took me 8 hours to finish it (breaks included).

Beautiful views and a very well maintained trail. Note no dogs allowed on this one, and a very bumpy road up to the trailhead. Challenging but nothing too hard

Trail was in great condition, and also a very nice grade for our overnight packs - not too strenuous. Beautiful mountain flowers and views of Kokanee glacier park. Most of the elevation gain is up to Kokanee Lake (4.5km approx.) the next 3km and a bit is pretty rolling. Walking around Kokanee lake is beautiful!

Incompleted trail due to “dog ban”, so we have to cancel planned hiking route. Nice lake anyway. One thing is to point out is the unsaved road condition is really poor in certain section and no way can be accessible by car or van with old tires and loaded, so be careful.

We were very excited For this hike hearing the reviews and it probably is but the road in gets very steep and the road has ruts so big that you need a decent vehicle to get in and out. We had to turn around and settle for the rainforest hike that is on the same road. Wish we would've had my truck rather than a mazda 3. Still want to try this hike.

Extremely beautiful hike! Every turn has a great view and the lake at the end is stunning. Took us 2.5 hours round trip with a short a photo stop. Everything is clearly signed. Road up to the trail head is 45 minutes and quite bumpy with lots of pot holes Highly recommend this hike!

Great hike today. Cooler up at the lake than down on Kootenay. Some bugs but not bad.

Hiking

This is one of by far favourite hikes I’ve done so far!!! Gorgeous is all I have to say!!! All of the waterfalls made the heat bearable (+30’s that day) up and down. The view of Gibson Lake was stunning. Once we got around the corner to view Kokanee Lake, I lost my breathe and had tears in my eyes! It was breath taking!! The colours of the lake were vibrant! Only a bit of snow in a few areas. We had the lake to ourselves with only 3 passerbyers. The snow was mostly on the right side of that lake on the opposite side of where we came in. And there’s a BATHROOM up there!!! No signs of bears. Lots of Marmots, Pika, and squirrels, oh and one giant black spider!! The road driving up to the parking lot was very bumpy. Just go slow, we had to back up a few times and take another run at it driving a AWD SUV. The view from that lake was totally worth a the heat and suffering i endured haha.

Beautiful views all the way as the terrain changes while you climb. Keep on going past the lake for a gorgeous Alpine meadow, sadly we were a little late for most of the flowers this year.

Hiked this trail July 15th. Very nice - great scenery and well maintained trail. We were trying to continue further to Kaslo Lake, but only made it up to Kokanee Pass, too much snow. No sign of bears yesterday, lots of marmots instead. Road to the trailhead is not too bad.

Four of us did the hike today and everyone said it was awesome. The views were amazing. The trail was perfect and easy to follow. We came across several families. Ensure you pack a jacket as it is very cool at the lake as it is still half frozen. Highly recommend!

This was an incredible hike and not super strenuous. Hiked July 8th..was pretty socked in at the start but we got some stunning views as we neared the lake. There were quite a few trees blown down across the trail that you had to navigate but not a show stopper. Was surprised at how much snow is still up top and at the lake which is still about 40% frozen. The views all the way up and down are stunning! Looks like a later summer hike here you would see incredible wildflower blooms and I’d like to come back and go further! No bugs at the start as it was cool but on our way down the mosquitos were coming out.

Kokanee Lake is a real treasure and I would highly recommend this moderate hike. I was surprised by the amount of snow, though (on 3 July 2020). I saw kids as young as six and folks in their 70s hiking - it’s doable for all! The road was in great shape, but was clear that a significant amount of work had recently been done on it.
