I've done this hike to avoid the long, dreadful switchbacks you normally get from the more commonly taken trail that goes to Lesser Garibaldi Lake. There are also switchbacks here, but it's shorter and steeper; I rather have this so I can get to the campsite quicker.

I also prefer the Helm Creek campsite as opposed to the Taylor Meadows campsite. There are still a ton of mosquitoes, but at least you get amazing views of Black Tusk and you're on an open field.
