A lovely wooded hike up to Heart Lake. Trail steep but in good condition. Great view across to the gulf islands off Ladysmith. Hiked around the back of Heart then Stocking lakes to the outlet. Easy trail down around the mountain in lovely forest at first, but clear cut areas lower down along the trail were not pretty.

Did the loop clockwise starting at the Stocking Lake trail head. Gradual ascent with some brief steep spots for a good cardio workout plus some pretty views along the way. Heart Lake is a perfect place to break for a snack. A gorgeous view of Salt Spring and Thetis Island marks the start of the dissent from Heart Lake. A steep initial descent with rocks and roots eased to an easy walk along a gravel road in the forest back to the Trail head. Trail conditions ere dry.

Decent uphill adventure! Got about 16,000 steps in doing this loop. Not only are there two lakes to enjoy but also an amazing view spot on the way down that over looks Thetis Island and Salt spring. Would 100 percent recommend for a casual day hike.

Good hike - lots of construction and logging that can make following the trail challenging. The all trails map was really useful!

I would give this trail a 5 star but do to massive logging happening throughout and around the park, it creates confusion finding connecting trail at times. Got lost at one point and back tracker a bit, good thing there are plenty of markers but you sometimes have to walk a bit in various directions to find them. Hard trail with great cardio burn up to hart lake with a beautiful rewarding view. From there easy-moderate around the lakes with a glorious view of the ocean past Stocking lake. Not a fan of the logging roads and active work, luckily it was only the last quarter.

awsome hike, but at the end all trails seriously dropped the ball! instead of leading us into the proper trail for the last .5k it instructed us to Bush whack thru a huge hill of brambles and people back yards. not cool! other than that great hike

This trail only gets a 3 star rating as it follows roads for a long portion of the trail. The trail section around the lakes is very nice, although there was up to 6 inches of snow still in places and made me regret my decision to leave my gaitors at home. They are currently pushing a road through near stocking lake and it is an active worksite with excavators.

Did the Stocking to Heart Lake loop. Worked hard for the elevation gain on the bike. Great workout. Enjoyed the ride, trail well marked. Will definitely visit again. Nice views at 2km mark.

Nice, well groomed trail with a few challenging sections making for an interesting hike. We tried going clockwise and the initial route was a bit confusing because you have to cross along a housing development. Definitely need hiking poles coming down the steep, winding portion from Heart Lake.

I was just exploring some new trails as I am new to the area, and can access the trails from our house. It took a little longer than I thought as I went off trail a couple of times, but for the most part the trails were well marked and it was a good workout!

Great little workout. The trail was in good condition, no bugs and only a few damp spot close to Heart Lake. We did the loop counterclockwise and it would have been a good idea to bring poles for the descent as the shale was loose.

We did this trail again this afternoon. We did the steep climb first (counterclockwise) and descended along the rocky logging road (which has a nice incline as well). We did it again to see the distance. Once again, we came in at 7 MILES on my GPS. It is hike for sure, but beautiful this time of year.

Enjoyed this trail. Overall a pretty easy and straightforward hike, aside from initial incline.

Loved this trail and the hike through the hills. Have completed it a couple times and is a nice workout. Not sure if a clockwise or counterclockwise route should be suggested. Just depends if you want the steep incline at the start (counter) or the nice gradual walk at the start (clockwise).

How anyone can give this trail one star I will never know. This is a short hike but a bit of a quad burner. The city and water views are phenomenal. The trail is very well marked. I only go to Heart Lake and always see eagles and hawks. Awesome trail located within a small town.

Great trail, beautiful views, some spots not well marked so lost our direction a couple of times. Otherwise it’s a very scenic trail and once I can figure out the right path to take I will do it again!
