The BC Parks map is super outdated, the connecting trail involves some route finding and dog walkers on the lower trail do not leash their dogs as required by BC Parks and it’s annoying. Took my 8YO down the scramble bits and he did our route finding and loved it.
We did this in just under two hours, not a fast pace either. The trail down from east canyon to lower falls is a scramble. Not recommended for dogs or very young kids
Start from the gold creek day use area parking lot.
I did the hike from the Lower falls trail, found the trail up to east canyon trail quiet easily. The climb from the lower falls to the east Canyon trail is well marked once you find the path, it is not marked with a sign but I found this path easy to find. Orange ribbons and black and yellow markers on trees mark the way (even though the connecting trail is not marked on the map at the parking lot). The climb is quite steep at times with lots of switchbacks, a little bit of scrambling. You probably should have some real hiking boots for this part with a good tread, it would be too slippery for Nike freeruns :-P
There is a sign from the east canyon trail that indicates the turn off to the lower falls so whichever direction you do the loop it should be easy enough to find the way.
The east canyon trail is marked as “not maintained” on the map but I found this trail very well maintained.
I would do this hike again for a good easy outing.
Excellent hike but the link between East Canyon Trail and Lower Falls Trail is NOT MAINTAINED. We had to search for the path by looking for the orange ribbons/yellow plaques on the trees; many fallen trees and roots to climb around on a steep downhill.
Make sure to go counterclockwise starting from East Canyon Trail, not the other way round.
Beautiful relaxing hike that ends at a sweet waterfalls.
The Creek and fall.
Another great day here. So many little trails to shoot out and explore. This trail is super easy and fantastic for a power-walk workout.
Great easy hike with so many great views of the river and the mountains! It was lovely and quiet. We only ran into three other groups along the hike, everyone was friendly. The dog loved the trail as well!!
Great hike. Some elevation gain so you don't want to be super out of shape otherwise you won't enjoy yourself as much. A few moments where you need to jump across streams and such so need to be comfortable with balancing on rocks in water. Footing was a bit tricky coming back down the east side of the Lower Falls Trail. Make sure to be in good footwear and go slowly.
We were there towards the end of the day so managed to catch some nice sun setting behind the mountains views. Will definitely return.
