Solid. Not too difficult. Lots of individual trails which required considerable map checking.
Lovely area and I loved all the arbutus. Moderate hike through very classic terrain for this area. Not the usual kind of trail I pick to hike, as it’s clearly more for mountain biking and there are trails all over the place and no signage so I was pulling out my phone constantly. I didn’t end up on the recommended route a lot even with the phone/app help, although it didn’t matter as the trails were similar. If I was on a bike instead of hiking it would have been amazing.
Lots of snow, first tracks in some parts but easy to navigate, great views at top!
Nice trail. Easy to follow with the app. Kids ages 10, 8, and 5 loved it.
Shared trail with mountain bikers which works fine. A labyrinth of trails through Arbutus forests, with a great view of Finlayson arm from the point marked on the map screenshot. In the summer Durrance lake was perfect for a dip after the hike
Lots of overlapping bike trails, we had our AllTrails app out for most of the way- but was easy to follow along the correct route. Good viewpoint at the top!!
Beautiful trails with varying terrains. Amazing place for forest bathing.
A few points: -no signage anywhere along trail system, so an app with a map and gps is key. -many bike runs crossing trails which can confuse your planned hiking trail, but with an app we’re able to find the summit we’d come for - trails are good width, but can run along river beds or stream paths or have suffered some erosion - during rainy season, parts of the trail system may be flooded (after a week of rains in October we encountered 2-3 shallow puddles covering trails) -heavily forested, which can have an effect on late day trips since there aren’t well marked straightforward paths out (we used Joe’s Berms to make a hasty exit from the summit, would recommend in a pinch) - multiple small summits, but none we visited had unblocked views (perhaps the Satellite Road travelling north of the official summit as views of the Saanich Inlet??) -had a good feel of being out in undisturbed wilderness -can verify that small portions of the trail system are minimally overgrown with tree limbs or brambles
Very hard to follow any sort of route. Possibly will lose service at some points. Biking path primarily. No actual viewpoint that I could find or see
Even though it’s a pretty hike, this is definitely made for mountain bikes. It could be very easily to get lost because there are so many unmarked trails. Fortunately I did not encounter any mountain bikers but I could see if you were hiking and encountered a bike, it could get very dangerous very quickly
Great hiking trail. Few cyclists but no traffic issues. Lots of little trails so need to keep an eye out but most lead back to a similar route. Fabulous view at the top!
Even with the snow, easy to find the trails and a beautiful climb and view. muddy and washed out in some places.
