The Diez Vistas trail is typically done as a 12.9 km loop that also includes Buntzen Lake. If you prefer a shorter hike instead, an out and back to Vista #1 would be a good choice. The numbering of the Vistas can be a bit confusing. Vista #1 is actually the fifth viewpoint along the trail. And due to tree growth, Vistas 7 through 10 no longer have views at all, so you will see all the main views by Vista #1 and you will also reach the trail's highest peak on Sunrise Hill. To begin your hike, park in the first gravel parking spot. This will place you close to the Diez Vistas trailhead just after the Buntzen Lake floating bridge. The first half of the trail is of moderate difficulty. After passing the power lines, the second half becomes much steeper, unmaintained, and more difficult. When you reach the East Point Loop, it will be necessary to hike around the loop to see all of the views. Going back down the steep trail can be tricky and gloves would be a good idea.

HikingGreat!

It was a steep hike but worth it, shame that you don’t get views like you use to.

First of all, the one way trail system is a pain and the signage is not clear. Added 4.2 km to the start of the hike and I ended up going clockwise which I think is the wrong way still. Either way, did not matter too much since there were few hikers on the trail. As for the hike itself it is quite long and steep so proper hiking boots recommended. The view is nice but not as nice as others around. Overall effort to view ratio is not great.

Trail parking opens at 8am due to Covid and no lineups are allowed so either park somewhere and come back at 8 or arrive at 8 on the dot. Detour in place, takes around 45 minutes more than usual. The detour for the trailhead is a little hidden for those who haven't been there before (us), but basically just follow the signs from the entrance at the furthest parking lot until you see the instructions on how where the trail head is. Beautiful trail, clearly marked, technically 2 view points to Vista 1 - one that is more hidden behind trees and the other one is more open.

An overlong detour brings you up to the gate entrance and around to the other side of the lake. A good 2.5km detour. Aside from that it was a great hike, good weather and the one view is absolute money.

Decent trail , there’s not a whole lot of points of view . We actually hiked 16 km and not 13km .

One way trails in place. Trail is very well marked, be prepared for a longish day as you have to add 45 mins due to the one way trail.

I really enjoyed this! It wasn’t super long or too hard in my opinion. The view of Vancouver and surrounding area is incredible.

Great intermediate hike with intense uphill. At 8:30am (Sunday) parking was full. For 20 mins we struggled to find parking. We parked about 45 mins walk to the trailhead. From the trailhead, it took us 2 hours to reach the major viewpoint, which is lovely. Overall it took us 5 hours with 1 hour at the viewpoints.

Steep at times but 100% worth the view. One of the best views for such a short climb. We set up hammocks at the top and it was amazing

This is a nice after work hike for people that are 9-5ers that want to get in a hike with a bit of elevation and some views. The full Diez Vistas Trail wouldn’t be possible since the parking lot closes at 8pm.

RAIN ! If you decide to do it on a rainy day make sure to bring extra clothes and shoes. It gets really slippery. Overall great experience, challenging

Fairly easy to follow but keep eyes out for orange trail markers in the top steeper segment. The views are pretty spectacular, one part you can see over the lakes and if you keep hiking through to Vista 1 (I think) you see out of the Indian Arm, down Burrard Inlet and beyond. Pretty forested trails. There are lots of roots and rocks though, and I wouldn't want to do it during or after a big rain without good boots as I could see it getting fairly slippery and muddy and some of the small creeks getting bigger. Will do it again!
