We just completed this hike beginning on the morning of May 29th, 2020 Launched our canoe at 6:30 am from the RV park/Marina. It took us approximately 7.5 hours to canoe Great Central Lake to the trailhead with rest stops of course. When we arrived at the dock, we had a short break and began the trek to our first campsite. Due to the time of year we chose to do this hike, the trail was slightly unmaintained, with plenty of animal prints and droppings to keep the heart racing. For the first 2-3 kilometers, expect mosquitos to hover in your personal space, as you are stomping through and around swamp territory. About 3 kms into the hike, the beauty begins and you are greeted by breathtaking rivers and greenery. we chose to hike to the second campsite (about 12kms) in, directly below the cable car that takes you across the river ahead. The cable car acted as a food cache for our bags for the night. On day 2 we hiked the rest of the trail, which brought a slight increase of elevation and reached the base of the falls. There are plenty of stops for water, so don't hesitate to hydrate often. After taking in the base of the falls, we stored our bags at a food cache located in one of the base camps and made our way up to Love Lake. The Love Lake trail is steep, but worth it, with tons of switch backs and views along the way. There were so many pros about hiking this time of year, however, we could have used cramp ons as there was tons of snow still at the top. With quite a bit of difficulty, we eventually made it. TOTALLY WORTH IT! We finished the second day by hiking back to our first site. Day 3 was the start of the journey back home. We hiked back the 12kms to the dock and began the leisurely canoe. We conquered about a 1/3 of the way and decided to dock on a private beach and enjoy our last night under the stars. Day 4, June 1st, we finished the canoe and headed home. Unreal adventure, and the most physical exertion we have put our bodies through in awhile. 70km canoe, 38kms hiking roughly.

5.75 hours to the falls with a lunch break in the middle. stayed at a creek side campsite. 4.5 hours back down the next day. lots of opportunity for water. great swim at the dock waiting for pick up. definitely go again but earlier. mid June would be the time to go since there was hardly any water coming down the falls. great hike. Doug and Chris from della falls water taxi are great guys to deal with. super friendly. would suggest this hike to anyone.

A group of us + 3 dogs just completed (June 14th-16th, 2019) Great central trailhead to Della falls base (15.2kms one way), and love lake look out (3kms one way). Weather conditions were great. First 3-4km or so into the trail the mosquitoes were terrible, after that we did not experience anymore mosquitoes, but there was quite a bit of devils club through out some sections of the trail. Overall, I would highly recommend this trail, it was amazing, lots of water on the trail on the way to Della falls. Love lake however has a few water sections in the beginning then nothing until you hit the lake, so fill up when you can and make sure you have enough for your dogs too. It’s a great trail for dogs, with a few sections where it’s a little sketchy for them that they might need some assistance for their safety. The falls were great at this time of year and there was reports that Love lake was still frozen, when we got there love lake was completely unthawed. Bit of snow on the top of the look out still however but nothing to worry about. Would also highly recommend pre-booking the shuttle service! They were great!

Did this trip over May long weekend this year. Lots of mosquitoes at the beginning of the trail. There was still a fair bit of snow near the falls but was easy enough to hike over. Unable to make it to love lake at this time of year due to the snow.

Loved Della Falls! I did 3 days and 2 nights with a trip to Love Lake in the middle and I would definitely go back again. I went in September so the flow of Della wasn't that big but we only ran into two other people and it was perfect. If I went again I would spend a day just around camp but I know a lot of people that would prefer to just go there and back in one day so it's completely based on your preference. Cable car would be a challenge if you are alone.

this place was great! just me and my GSD did this hike over three days. wild blueberries everywhere in August. The weather was great, first 9km we're more of a stroll with a heavy pack. last 6 got a bit challenging at points. Lots of nice rivers to filter water from. Falls were small when we got there but that was expected given late August. we will go again next year in July hopefully.

Awesome trail and well worth the cost of the water taxi. The hike up to Love Lake is pretty strenuous but offer some amazing views of Della Falls and the lake feeding it. Highly recommend jumping in Love Lake for a swim after the challenging hike up.

great trip. recommend a side trip to love lake, best views of the hike. check out trail reports before leaving, heavy snow damage to stairs.

Getting to the trailhead is a bit of a pain but the hike should include the trip to love lake on the opposite side of the valley.

First 10k is pretty easy, most of the elevation is towards the end. Highly recommend to take an extra day to do the Love Lake trail before the falls base camp. The views are well worth the 800m climb off a steep trail. Don't slip! :)
