This is a strenuous hike up into the alpine, with astonishing views across to the back of Fernie Alpine Resort and down to Island Lake Lodge. The trail is very steep at the start and a certain amount of route-finding is needed once in the alpine. Broadly-speaking, once in the alpine you are heading up a channel between the sidewalls, and you want to be aiming a little to the (hiker heading up's) right of the big rocky mound that sits in the middle of the channel. Once over the top of the pass, it is a short hike down to Thunder Meadows Cabin, which you can book for overnight stays (via the Guides Hut in Fernie). There is a small lake just beyond the hut.

Hiked in and camped a night at Thunder Meadows in August. It's a steep climb up, that gets a little loose. The cabin is well equipped.

Will definitely tour back here in winter time for some backcountry pow laps.
