Description

The trail starts off by passing through the forest and then crossing a wooden footbridge over a tall grassy and marshy area before gently climbing back into the forest. At the junction, you can either start the loop around the lakes clockwise or counter clockwise. This route takes the path to the right and goes counter clockwise, starting at the fifth lake and going around the first. The trail consists of some steeper uphill and downhill sections along with some flatter areas in between but it is not too difficult. Upon reaching the fifth lake, the trail follows a narrow ridge along the side of a hill which provides amazing views of the lakes and gorgeous mountain landscape. All five lakes are absolutely beautiful and awe-inspiring and you will love the vibrant colour of the water in unique shades of blue and green and how crystal clear they are. There are beautiful reflections of the surrounding mountains and pine trees on the calm water's surface which makes for some lovely photos. These lakes are among some of the most breathtaking in the Rockies. When you get to the first lake, continue along Trail 9B to loop back around to the trailhead unless you are looking for a longer hike around the first lake, then take Trail 9A. It takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete the hike including many stops to take photos and admire the natural beauty around me. These stunning lakes are definitely a must-see and well worth a visit in Jasper.

HikingGreat!

A nice hike, the trail is well groomed and well marked. Most hikers we encountered took the clockwise 9b route so I would recommend the counter-clockwise 9a route for a leisurely hike with no pressure from behind. The lakes are varying shades of green/teal and while they are pretty, I wouldn't consider them a "must see."

Lots of reward (views of 5 different small lakes!) for the moderate level of effort involved. Perfect for a day when the mountains were shrouded in clouds and smoke. Only negative was the number of people on the trail but then again it was Saturday....

Most of everything you want to see is at the very back of this trail; furthest away from the parking. I was worried this hike would be a bust as I've walked nearly to the back and have seen nothing of interest. Then when I saw the first lake -- I was impressed! The colours are absolutely gorgeous and the water is so clear. It was near empty when I went - 630PM. Not a single soul near the red chairs.

Misty this morning, ...so couldn't see the surrounding mountains, it was still worth it though for the lakes! We were there at 9am and only saw a handful of people for most of the trail (it was quiet and peaceful for most of the trail), saw many more people on the way back. We went counter clockwise in the loop (following the recording) and enjoyed it. This trail took us ~2hrs to complete after taking a bunch of pictures throughout.

RunningGreat!

For an easy trail, valley of five lakes is so gorgeous. The trail is very doable in running shoes. Although there are some short steeper sections where hiking boots would be better, especially for those a little less sure on their feet. Take a good look at the map when you start (maybe take a picture of the map at the trailhead!). I ended up helping quite a few people who were confused about directions. You won’t get lost but you may end up travelling some extra kilometres.
