Description
Waypoints (0)

This popular route takes the easier, gravel Upper Grassi Lakes Trail up and returns on the steeper Grassi Lakes Trail. Feel free to do it in reverse or as an out and back. Note: the Grassi Lakes Trail is located in a Wildlife Corridor. Travel in this area is restricted to designated trails only for the protection of natural habitat, animals, and hikers. Please remain on designated trails at all times. Each member of your hiking group should carry bear spray, as bears are often spotted in this area. Approximately 100m from the trailhead, there is a fork with signage indicating an easier route and one that is more difficult. The easier trail to the right is called Upper Grassi Lakes and follows an old road through dense forest. The more difficult route to the left is the Grassi Lakes Interpretive and climbs gradually through forested terrain before reaching a very steep section with excellent views of a waterfall and the town of Canmore. The loop can be completed in either direction, clockwise or counter-clockwise. The more difficult Grassi Lakes Interpretive Trail is closed in the winter due to icy conditions which develop from water flowing over the trail. The cliffs around the lakes are regularly visited by climbers but should not be closely approached by hikers unless equipped with climbing helmets to protect against serious injury from falling rocks.

Very easy. Super nice lakes at the top. Took me 30 minutes up. Take the hard loop for a nice waterfall

HikingGreat!

Trail was fairly busy as anticipated on a lovely Sunday morning. We took the “more difficult” trail up and easier trail down. Definitely worth it, and would not risk going down the more difficult trail (as it’s rocky and wet). This is a great beginners hike.

Did the easy side as an out and back trail with my mom who has lung cancer - so anyone can do this hike. It’s a decent incline on the way there but the trail is really nice and the view is more than worth it!

Very good, trail in great shape despite the heavy attendance on the long weekend. Serious stair warning for those choosing the difficult side.

The trail described easy is actually an ascent 65% of the time so going up can be mentally challenging. Plenty of people took the difficult trail and appeared to arrive on the scenic spot before us so it might not have been truly difficult at all, but actually, in fact, moderate.

Beautiful trail, we took the "hard" way up which was not difficult in the slightest even for unseasoned hikers. My 21 pound Boston terrier did a great job of keeping up with us. Beautiful views and waterfall vista, overlooking the town and the lakes at the top were well worth it. Stopped to eat dinner in a forested area around the lake and was very disappointed by the trash people have left there during the long weekend. Masks, Tim Hortons cups, toilet paper, straw hats to name a few. Beautiful hike, very sad people aren't maintaining the trails.

Great little hike, wide trail so easy to walk and navigate. Went with my dog and sister it took us 1:24 to complete, we did hang out at the top for a while and took some pictures the lakes and view are beautiful.

HikingGreat!

Better to take the more difficult path on the way up. Better views. Also at the end it is easier to go up on the slippery rocks than come down on them. Plus I found coming down on the easy path rather boring but was better than going up that way. Biggest disappointment was the amount of fresh garbage on the path ways and the sides of the path. Masks, water bottles, food wrappers, water bottle wrappers etc. Nice hike which was marred a bit by those who cannot carry out their garbage. Also people threw bags of dog feces out into the woods and in one case got it stuck up in a tree for all to see.

Hey guys, It was really good trail for whole family. Follow only hard trail while going up and down and you will find beautiful views We did this trail on 22nd August best to go early morning or around noon time ( because people left at this time ) because on weekends it is tough to find parking. Wear good tight shoes, so, that water not goes inside it. At the end you will find two beautiful emerald ponds, relax and enjoy but don't stop there go forward and pass rock climbers and you will see other beautiful lake but I don't know the name of the lake. For that take care of your steps. It's not tough trail. Enjoy it's worth it.

We got there at 8:20am, and it was not very busy. Went up to Grassi Lake via the more difficult route. It took us to a trail right by a beautiful waterfall. Trail is quite steep but very well maintained. I highly recommend taking the easy way down as the other route is watery and slippery. Great view by Grassi Lake, water is similar to the Five Flower Lake at Jiuzhaigou National Park in China. Good place for rock climbing too.

Great easy trail with a beautiful little lake, great waterfall and lookout of Canmore. I would recommend taking the harder way up as you can see the waterfall better instead of having it behind you and having to turn around to look at. The trail is also well marked.

Beautiful trail that was the perfect length and decently busy. It was amazing to watch the rock climbers while we were on our hike here.
