Three Sisters via Highline Trail is a 3.6 mile lightly trafficked point-to-point trail located near Canmore, Alberta, Canada that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and mountain biking and is best used from May until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
It was a little hard to find the trail head! You park at the resort at the bottom of the hill, then climb the closed dirt road on the right of the resort. And follow it as it leads to the left til you see the sign for high line. Also note that this trail is 5km ONE WAY! We mistakenly thought that was round trip and were surprised to find this is actually a 10km hike. However, it boasts beautiful forest views and lots of lichen draping over the pines.
Well travelled trail path still lots of snow, but overall easy hike
Great hike, beautiful in the forest so jo views until you reach either end. leisurely but boring walk along powerline back : )
Lovely walk through the forest (shared mountain bike trail). Did as a loop via Highline trail to Three sisters creek to Powerline Trail. We've only done this trail in the winter, would suspect it to be pretty busy with mountain bikers in the summer. Easy incline, went after fresh snow so can't comment about ice, but crampons always helpful for winter hiking. The creek and waterfalls were great, cross the creek at the 1st falls and follow the creek on the left side until you reach the 2nd falls. Tried to loop back via powerline trail but accidentally found ourselves hiking back through the golf course. Creek and falls had some people, very few along highline trail.
Trail was in good shape but glad we had spikes. Starts steep up, levels out then down hill to the Three Sister Village. Back up hill on the way back. No views throughout except at the beginning and end. Otherwise solid trees. Lots of downhill bikes so the dogs to be on leash.
Lightly used. Decent snow. A few bikes had been through. Only saw 2 other hikers. A lot of up and down and switch backs. A moderate hike and what looks like an awesome bike trail.
The trail is well marked and travelled. However there is a fairly significant and sloped ice flow crossing the path about 3.5km in. We had crampons and poles but a fall wouldve meant a pretty good slide downhill. We turned around and took the other leg of the trail back to Quarry Lake.
Was a great start to our trip. The Highline section was very “moderate” in difficulty and was perfect for a good warm up. We decided to attempt the Grassi Knob off Shute and we didn’t get a chance to complete it. Was to late in the day. That section was very steep in sections and extremely happy we had brought our crampons in our packs for the decent. All in all it was a great day for a hike.
