Tried to go after thanksgiving (October 15). Road was closed and someone from Parks Canada told us that the trail is closed for the year

We hiked on Canadian Thanksgiving (Monday, Oct. 14). Moderate trail but fairly ok if you’re fit. The first part of the trail had a steady, slightly steep incline all the way through the forest up to the fake summit. Icy but not too slippery. Then the real fun begins. The last bit to summit was covered in almost 2 feet of snow and was incredibly steep. It was tough for me (I’m 5’3”) but I reached the summit without any hiking poles or crampons, and the views from the ridge were incredible. We were the only ones who made it up there (most stopped after the fake summit or on the trail).

Thanksgiving weekend hike to the summit. Snow packed and a steady incline all the way up. Lots of slippery sections and crampons would've helped but trekking poles were a good alternative. Last section is quite steep and the snow was helpful for footing to make the scramble to the top. Overcast day but great 360° views. Not much wind so it wasn't too cold. We were the first ones to summit this day but lots of people came up after us. Definitely recommend starting early and then hop in the hotsprings afterwards for a relaxing soak. Looking forward to doing this hike again in fairer weather.

Was quite a bit more snow than expected. Basically the whole trail. Lots of switchbacks. I’d say it seemed a bit more challenging than a medium. Especially when you get to the top. We didn’t go to the summit as we were slipping quite a bit. Poles and crampons recommend.

Wanted to do this trail for some time and today is the day. The hike starts out at a steady pace that doesn't stop! The first 2km are steady, gradual uphill pace with not many views until about the 1.5/ 1.7km mark when you can see across to valley to the opposite ridge. From the junction (where you take the right branch) the incline increases and keeps ascending through many switchbacks right up until tree line. There are many open viewpoints along this section of the trail to see down the Fiddle Valley. Once at tree line there is a brief break before the last push to the summit, the grade increases too. The trail was hard to follow due to snow accumulation and was slippery with the rocks under the snow. However once at the summit the views are expansive, 360 degrees all around. Utopia Mtn dominates the skyline and there are great views down the Fiddle Valley with Ashlar Ridge looking small from up here, quite a different perspective than at the viewpoint along the parkway. Not as much snow on the summit and not windy which was nice and we were able to spend over an hour at the summit. The descent was slippery, rocks under the snow, but overall coming down was quick and easy. Would definitely recommend this trail to anyone wanting to get to a summit relatively quickly. The hot springs at the bottom really finish off a great hike.

Thanksgiving long weekend - quite nice. Needed crampons, packed snow which was great especially at the top if you prefer snow to rock scramble.

Breathtaking view at the end, but extremely windy and cold once you’re above the tree line (last 30min to the top).

360 degree view of the surrounding peaks but very windy on the top. 1h15 for the climb

Icy in the first bit but after you hit the switchbacks there isn’t much ice. The switchbacks provide excellent views but you gotta go to the top! Last part is very steep. I’m guessing without the snow the loose shale would be tough - the snow helped. Clear sunny day with no wind at the top = absolutely stunning views. Downhill was harder, had to slide down in a few spots. My hiking stick was very helpful

The trail was partially covered in snow and icy patches which made it a challenge early in the morning before things warmed up. We made it to the top in about 2hrs and took a break with amazing views. wear layers, bring gloves and be prepared to slip and slide a bit going down..used my butt a few times.

Great trail! New to hiking so it was a bit tough for us. Brought along my 11 and 15 year old daughters and they did quite well. Made it to the peak and the views were amazing. Layers needed. Lots of spots for breaks. Steep incline at the top. Would definitely do this trail again.

Snowy and beautiful today. Didn’t do the summit, it was clearly blustery and slippery.

My first true hike that wasn’t mainly flat and I actually hit the summit (haha)! We started before the rush of people that came around noon on a Saturday and were able to have a nice and quiet time up top. Plenty of spots for breaks and picture-esque moments along the way. Loved it!
