HikingGreat!

We went there on Sunday and not too busy . It got very windy so make sure you have warm clothes. You can enter the building and access the facilities by leaving your name .

Great and straightforward hike with constant incline. Good for beginners and older kids. Was not heavily trafficked today likely due to the Haze. While it was Hazy, the air did get better as you ascended. Great foliage, lots of yellows and red leaves to be seen. Wear good sneakers or hiking boots.

HikingGreat!

Love this trail. I have done a couple times this summer, with my baby (10 months). My fiancé carries him on his back. Switchbacks most of the way up... but I still think it’s a beautiful ascent through a wooded forest area. You might even see some wildlife! We saw a red fox this time around :) Beautiful views from the top. Be prepared to share with guests from the gondola rides... a bit unfortunate that hikers aren’t permitted to use the washroom, restaurant, or other facilities in the building (only open to gondola riders as per corona virus regulations). The descent seems long... the switchbacks kind of make it seem like you’re moving but not getting anywhere haha. All in all, lovely hike with scenic views. Definitely possible to do with you g children. The trail is well defined.

Walking

Stairs, stairs and more stairs. But still enjoyable. I liked the area where you could venture off to the side of the mountain away from the crowds and away from the stairs. The terrain was iffy and I was cautious as it’s literally just a path and a cliff. But great photo spot, got a nice background of the mountains and the sun. I am so happy I came during the evening. It was still busier than I thought it would be, but I can’t imagine what it would be like during the day. Anyways, back to the stairs, if you continue to the very top of the mountain you are rewarded with awesome views. I was blown away, just gorgeous. I was not WOWED by this hike itself, but the views were great. This was not one of my trip highlights as much as I thought it would be.

Completed this hike on September 9th, 1 hour 45 minutes up and 1 hour 15 minutes down. The gondola was closed for the day so we had the entire boardwalk to share with maybe 30 other hikers - probably a once in a lifetime experience! Views from the top are amazing and well worth the moderate trek up the mountain. We logged 13.5km round trip and took our time venturing to the cosmic ray station at the top of the boardwalk.

This trail was awesome and such a rewarding view! I’m not an experienced hiker and I found this hike to be easy-moderate. The switchbacks make the elevation gain very tolerable! Would recommend this hike to anyone visiting banff, experienced hiker or not.

HikingGreat!Rocky

The trail is very shaded and you’re under tree cover for the most part. There are a few look out points but you do have to go off trail a little to really see much. Pretty much the entire trail is switch backs and constant elevation. There are very few parts to stop and rest but if you do, leave room for others to pass. The trail itself is fairly flat and travelled but about halfway up it gets rocky and narrow. Not a big deal, but for some it may be a bit scary to be on the edge. Most people take the gondola up so the summit is FULL of people wanting to take photos. I was still able to push through and get a few myself. If you hike up, you’re hiking down. You cannot use the gondola one way, the washrooms or the restaurant. I have no problem finding a space off trail but when it’s that crowded...you hold it. If you’re like me and adjusting to the dry mountain air, be prepared to have more water than usual for hiking. You’ll need it.

Gorgeous views, but very boring trail. The views at the summit are amazing but the sound of the gondola both throughout the hike and especially at the top wasn’t the most pleasant.
