NOTE: As of June 2020, facilities and gondola are closed due to COVID 19 concerns. Sulphur Mountain Trail is an alpine switchback pathway which leads to the summit ridge of Sulphur Mountain. The mountain is based in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies and overlooks the small town of Banff in Alberta, Canada. Once at the top, visitors can also check out the historic Cosmic Ray Station on Sanson Peak. After 7pm or anytime during the winter, visitors can take the Sulphur Mountain Gondola ride down the mountain for free. Other times the gondola is $30. The Sulphur Mountain trailhead starts from the Upper Hot Springs parking area. This is a moderate hike with amazing views of the Bow Valley.

Awesome hike. If you want to access the facilities above and ride the gondola down, buy a round trip gondola pass if you are willing to throw away half the ride, then hike up. That's the only work around. Otherwise bring your own snacks!

Really nice trail, well maintained. Doable in runners. Completed it in 2 hours, with plenty of stops for pics. If you don’t plan on doing tbe trek back down, purchase your tickets online in advance, the day before it was $56, the day of, it was $62. Prices fluctuate. If you’re an Alberta resident they have a residence rate. The down is portion can be very hard on your knees if that’s a problem for you. The top observation decks can get very busy and hectic. Beautiful scenery though. Worth the hike.

20th wedding anniversary. Me and my wife walked up the trail today. Little overcast that was actually perfect. 2 hours up stopping to take pictures and enjoying the walk. Absolutely beautiful. 1 hour down . Bathroom is behind whatever tree you choose

Lots of switchbacks but the very top viewpoint is worth it! Don’t miss the weather tower lookout. Breathtakingly beautiful views, highly recommend. Not too steep, just long.

Did this a week ago on a rainy morning, kind of nice to have misty clouds at the top. Only 650m to the top, another 100m to the view point. Not an experienced hiker, not steep, just constant incline

enjoyed the hike even though we were met off and on with hail, thunder and lightening and downpours if rain.......still great hike. unfortunately as freezing cold it was on top...we could not enter the building at all unless we had a gondola pass.....that was pretty rude......

Took the west side of the mountain to the top - 17 km round trip and better views than the front side. Parked at the hot pools parking lot. Greeted by snow and hail at the peak. No access to any of the facilities at the top. So quiet on the west side. Barely saw a sole.

Completed July 4. Multiple switchbacks all the way up. Great view at the top. Be prepared that if you hike up , you’re going to have to hike down even if it is blizzarding and raining outside. No access to the gondola for hikers.

The trail was awesome - not too busy even on a Saturday. Pretty steep incline and a rewarding view. I would give the trail 4 stars but the experience at the top a 2. Oddly washrooms and food/water are not available to hikers at the top. Only people who pay to take the gondola up can get access to services. And you cannot pay to take the gondola down. We were told this is because of tracking, but it didn’t make sense because we were all together on the viewing platform. Hikers can use port-o-potties at the bottom (although they not being sanitized). Be forewarned you can’t refill water or use the washroom at the top if you hike up.

Did this hike just a few days ago in the morning. Hardly anyone on the trail at that time. Great condition. A nice steady incline with switchbacks. Stunning views from the top. Saw some goats, marmots, and chipmunks.

Really beautiful hike - not super steep incline but the trail zig-zags left and right up the mountain. At the top there is a visitors centre, gondola & restaurant. You can take the gondola down after hiking up which is a plus! Scenery and views at the top are amazing! Took me 2 hours to peak (: would highly recommend

Easy to Moderate hike, you are in the trees for a lot of the incline so I didnt find it as aesthetically pleasing than other hikes in the area. Still worth the summit though!

So this was my first in AB. I’m not an experienced hiker but found this pretty easy. There are some steep inclines at the start so be prepared for that, otherwise it’s totally worth the mindblowing views!

It was a great hike however, I do want to aware beginners that it’s not a moderate hike! It’s definitely hard. Your going up the mountain thus bring hiking poles.

Overall great hike and awarding views! Be aware that they don't let you take the Gondola going down and you can't use the washroom once you've climbed up.

A little bit boring until you reach the top since you're surrounded by trees most of the way up. A decent incline, I would say this is a bit harder than moderate due to how consistent the incline is.

Góndolas are only available for a two way trip . Can’t hike up and Get down on the gondola due to covid. Also Step but overall still worth the effort! took us about 1:45 on the way up . And we are beginners.

Incline the whole way and can get steep at times. Trail is well developed all the way to the top. Mostly flat but some a few rocky stretches. Don’t really need hiking shoes needed for this one. No technical skill needed; just your legs but can be physically challenging. Lots of switchbacks though. Phenomenal views up top! Quiet at the trail going up (started just before 12pm). Few more people going down. Took about 1h45min to get to the Cosmic Ray Station and about 50min to get down.

One of my favorite early season hikes. Switch backs the whole way up and fairly steep for some stretches. Took my dog and I just over an hour. Views at the top are well worth it. Some big horn sheep also at the top! Trail is normally somewhat busy but not bad yet.
