Great hike! A little tough on the top half because of all the snow and mud, make sure to wear the right shoes and bring poles right now! The views are worth it!

Fantastic hike! Challenging thru the snow/slush right now on the last 1/4 of the trail. Will be back to do it again in the summer when all the snow is gone!

Easy hike without snow (moderate with, depending what time of year you're hiking). SUPER touristy and heavily trafficked. Would recommend for families with young kids or someone that wants a nice walk through the forest. Not a very scenic hike up, you're in heavy forest slogging up the mountain. There is a look-out deck and gift shop, coffee shop etc. at the summit, which overlooks Banff. We weren't too impressed with the overall experience however, our saving grace was that once you reach the Sulfer mountain summit there is a connecting trail (Sulfer Mountain Traverse Trail I believe?) and this portion of trail was beautiful. Definitely more difficult with some large rock scrambling involved (and not a single other person on it!) I believe the trail goes about 4km along the mountain ridge but we could only get about 1.5km in (to the first ridge peak) as there was still waist deep snow beyond that point! If you're not satisfied after Sulfer Mountain, definitely keep going onto the Traverse Trail, you will not be disappointed - the views are fantastic! If you want an authentic hike with beautiful scenery throughout (not just a pretty summit), I'd say skip Sulfer Mountain, it's just way too touristy and there are tons of other beautiful trails around that offer a nicer, more peaceful hiking experience. Gondola also goes up and down this mountain so that adds even more non-hiker traffic at the summit.

Great hike. Gorgeous views of Banff and its valley from the viewpoint and restaurant. Boardwalk to the Cosmic Ray Station is also great and very easy. We saw some wildlife (horn sheep mainly) on the way up. Nothing on the way down with the gondola though.
