Rundle Riverside Trail is a 11 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Banff, Alberta, Canada that features a river and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until September.
Rundle Riverside Trail is an 8km trail that can be done in either direction. One end starts at the west end of the Canmore Nordic Centre, to access take Banff Trail or the Rundle Connector from the Nordic Centre parking lot to the trail head. The Banff trail head connects to the Banff Springs Golf Course road. Winter travel is not recommended as the trail is unmaintained in winter, expect blowdowns and be aware of avalanche conditions as it crosses the bottom of several avalanche paths.
Great out and back trail run. Mostly rolling hills, with a TON of roots. If you don't like roots....run! Not much to see as you are in the trees along the river most of the time. Trail starts at the west end of the Nordic Centre, run Banff Trail from the Nordic Centre parking lot to the trail head. Trail ends at the Banff Springs Golf Course road. Continue running along the road to the Banff Springs Hotel, then head back.
Awesome easy trail. Lots of roots on trail so watch your step. Took Banff Trail at the Canmore Nordic Centre for 6km to trailhead of Rundle Riverside Trail and follow that for 8km to Banff golf course then another 5km to Banff Townsite. If you take the Roam bus back to Canmore just remember that it doesn't go all the way up to the Nordic Centre. Nordic Centre day lodge hours are only 9am-5:30pm so there is no restroom outside these hours.
Nice to do as a trail run - easy, little elevation gain (mostly undulating) and quite knotty with the branches which makes it fun for running. Nice and cool too once you get into the shade of the trees. Wouldn’t recommend as a hike as it’s quite boring once you get past the first 3km and no longer get views of the river.
