Peyto Lake is a stunning turquoise colored lake fed from Peyto Glacier. This is a great family-friendly hike suitable for all skill levels. Peyto Lake sits between Yoho National Park and Jasper National Park. Once at the top, you will look out onto spectacular views of Bow Lake and the glacier to the west, Peyto Lake, and the Canadian Rockies. Peyto Lake is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lakes in the rockies and attracts large crowds, especially in the summer months. It is best to get there early in the morning if you are planning to visit in the summer

A short stroll to a spectacular view, not to miss if you travel along the Icefield Parkway!
Peyto Lake (pea-toe) is a glacier-fed lake located in Banff National Park. The lake was named for Bill Peyto, an early trail guide and trapper in the Banff area. The lake is formed in a valley of the Waputik Range, between Caldron Peak, Peyto Peak and Mount Jimmy Simpson, at an elevation of 1,860 m (6,100 ft). During the summer, significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise color. The lake is best seen from Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefield Parkway.

Super easy "hike" to spectacular lookout. Keep going up to get away from the crazy crowds. Depending on the trail you take, you could travel through a nice little meadow. At the top you can look out onto Bow Lake. The entire hike is easy. Nice clean trails.

One of the most beautiful overlooks on the planet! Hiked it the first week in July on a cloudless day. Once you get past the tourist overlook where most everyone stops to "Oooo" and "Ahhh," and then hike further to the good stuff at the rocky overlook, it's pay-dirt! Fairly easy trail on which we saw few hikers after the tourist overlook.

Can be a very busy overlook platform if you get there after 9 am. If you want to enjoy the lake in peace, take the trail down to the base of the lake and end up on the delta at the left hand side of the lake.
Starting from the viewing platform, turn around so that the lake is behind you. Take the paved trail on the right until the wooden railing ends. Go another 50 feet or so and you will see a small dirt path on your right that heads downhill. It's a little over a mile down but it's VERY steep so be ready for a workout on the way back up.

There are a lot of beautiful lakes in Alberta but don't miss Peyto Lake! It's a short uphill walk to spectacular views of the lake. You can see the lake, mountains beyond, as well as a glacier. The path is heavily trafficked in the summer with lots of tourists. There's plenty of room to enjoy the lake you may have to hike a bit and find a spot. No bad views!

Beautifull blue lake! It's a must see! The wood deck is over crowded. The upper left trail will bring you to a rocky ridge. From there, you get a gorgeous view! Much less crowded... we made it on June 5th and there was a lotttt of snow. Don't wear sandals ;)

When I went in late May, the trail was completely covered in snow or ice. Very slippery, but ultimately well worth the effort of getting there. It is an easy and short hike during the summer I'm sure. Peyto Lake is amazingly blue and beautiful. It was mostly frozen when I was there, but it was stunning. Highly recommended!

Beautiful spot, great views of what must be one of the most photographed lakes in the Canadian Rockies. It gets quite crowded at the lower viewpoint though. Easy hike to the upper viewpoint.
