Waypoints (1)

Please see the park page here for information about current COVID-19 and road closures: https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/ab/banff/visit/covid-19-info This hike is mostly switch backs. The trail is quite crowded until you get past lake Agnes. Then it dies down a lot, almost completely once you go left to St. Piran trail (everyone does Little Beehive). Just before you reach the top, it's a bit of a scramble. Absolutely beautiful views of Devils thumb, Fairview, little and big beehive with temple and niblock in the back. 360 views of endless mountains, colourful larches and bright blue and green lakes. The tea house at Lake Agnes is very busy, but they offer a large range of snacks and drinks. Note that there is no garbage/recycling bin at the tea house as the staff are responsible for trekking supplies up and down the mountain. Please do your part to help the staff and keep our parks clean by being prepared to pack out any garbage from your visit.

03/14/21 Great trail. Used both ice cleats & snowshoes on this hike. We took the Little Beehive trail towards Agnes Lake. Difficult to do but a great experience. Not many people have been on it because theres not really a path. The snow was up to our knees. After a while the path stops because the snow was so deep. you can see my recording. I put on the snowshoes & tried to go through. But i had to turn back because I've never been on this trai, I was unsure what direction to go. unfortunately couldn't make it to Mount St. Piran because of that. So hiked up to Lake Agnes. Then came back on the Agnes trail. I rate this trail 10/10 I loved it, wish I could have counitued on the Beehive Trail.

Great hike, trail is patted down from high traffic but there wasn’t a lot of people when we went. Recommend spikes for the stairs right before lake Agnes. You will 100% need snow shoes if you want to go any further than lake Agnes.

Was aiming to do Devil’s Thumb from St. Piran but after descending we couldn’t locate the trail. The hike up to Piran was pretty chill, not too long either. It was insanely windy at the top and I got pushed over a couple times. If you’re going up, bundle up in all your layers! We saw 6 mountain goats as we descended on the other side of the mountain (the trail is not well marked and very steep and slippery) and ended up in the big rocky bowl across from the tea house. There’s a sweet waterfall there too! Not my favourite trail, but a good workout and had an amazing hidden view of the backside of the mountain from the top.

HikingGreat!IcySnow

My girlfriend and our 2 dogs hiked little beehive then Mount St Piran. We arrived at 6:30 am, and the parking lot had about 10 cars. It was quite cold. We were wearing lots of layers, a balaclava and mittens. I was wearing runners and my girlfriend was wearing hiking boots. The hike to little beehive was great. Well groomed path, steep all the way but not too bad. Once we got to the teahouse the wind really picked up. We got to the top of little beehive in about 1 hour 15 mins. After some quick sunrise pics, we headed for Mount St Piran. There is a path, just nobody had taken it in a while. It started out with little to no snow, but as we got closer to the top the snow was shin deep (I'm 5'4) We did lose the trail a bit because the snow was fresh, but could easily find it when actually paying attention. we did NOT make it to the very top, as the winds were brutal, the path was getting steeper and deeper. From the point where we stopped it took approx 30 mins to get back to the little beehive sign, then approx 45 mins to get back to our car in the parking at Lake Louise. (We skipped the tea house on the way back and saved at least 1-1.5 km) Started at 6:30am back @ car 10:30am. Even tho we didn't make it to the top, it was a great hike!! Ps I know what you're thinking: yes, my runners did the job, and yes, the dogs had a lot of fun!

HikingGreat!No shade

We were in Lake Louise at 6am but still late to go Moraine lake to catch the Sunrise, woke up so early for nothing, but our trip was not wasted, we did the Mirror, the big beehive and the phenomenal Mount St Piran. The trail was great, and view majestic on the top. Is just a cloudy, but still you can see how amaZing the mountains are, a great hike

HikingGreat!

An easy trail with great views! The way up is very well marked and easy to follow. The trail from lake Louise to lake Agnes is a steady incline on a wide and typically busy path. After lake Agnes the path is narrower and slightly less busy. Up to the top is easy switch backs that have just a slight incline. Near the top it is quite rocky but not difficult to walk on. The top is pretty big with lots of places to sit including rock shelters to break the wind. It took us 2.5 hours to ascend with photo stops along the way. We were the second group up there, but after relaxing and eating lunch many more groups had ascended. the switchbacks back down looked busy, so we decided to descend on the opposite side. The views this way were nice and we ran into a mountain goat, but the trail was also quite steep. I would recommend good hiking boots and poles if you descend this way.

It is easy Zigzag from the official trail. we went down to Lake Agnes, some section is steep and loose soil makes it slippery. If you want to do the loop, go up from teahouse then lake agnes, then go down on the easy side. beautiful view on the top.

Lots of switchbacks however provides a mostly moderate but long incline all the way to the top. Spectacular 360 views!

HikingGreat!

This is one of my favourite hikes. Completed it in mid August. While the trail to Lake Agnes is busy, the crowds lessen significantly when you make the turn for Piran. The view at the top is an absolute 10! Just an FYI if you bring a dog the top is very rocky and has some larger rocks/boulders they’ll need to traverse. I had my dog (medium sized) and he was fine.

So many people, but once you split off from little beehive it’s super nice! It’s a long hike, no scrambling and beautiful views
