We hit this trail in reverse from Lake Magog to Mt Shark Trailhead as our exit from Assiniboine Provincial Park. Huge fan! The gradual incline up to Wonder Pass, the alpine meadows in full bloom up the top and then dropping off the other side to lake views... woweeeee! In the last 13km our crew got some word games going, made the kms fly by.
Great hike! Lots and lots of bugs at Lk Magog campground. First ~15 km are on a very wide, flat trail, but almost entirely in trees with little else to see. Camped at Marvel Lk (Br 13). Next day more difficult ~13 km over Wonder Pass to Lk Magog Campground. Took the helicopter out, but otherwise would make more sense to go in Assiniboine Pass and out Wonder Pass. While at Lk Magog, hike to the Nublet is a must.
Went from Lake Magog through Wonder Pass down to the Mt Shark parking lot on our way out. We went through Wonder Pass on Sunday June 28/20. There was still plenty of snow and in many places, the snow went up past our knees and we were post-holing for about 2 KM. As we descended, we got amazing views of Marvel Lake. The trail that over looks Marvel Lake was clear of snow. Some trees to climb over on the trail. We came across a lot of bear scat on the trail, some bear tracks, and an old carcass directly on the trail.
