Moraine Lake Rockpile Trail is a 0.8 kilometer heavily trafficked loop trail located near Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is best used from June until August. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Definitely not a hike, rather a walk to a view point of Morraine Lake. Great views from the top of the lake and surrounding mountains (though we went today 9/13 and there was heavy snow and limited visibility so the view was very obstructed). Parking is extremely limited and unless you get there early will need to park elsewhere and take a shuttle (for a fee I believe) or be part of a tour group. The one huge drawback (other than lack of parking) is the large number of tour groups that show up and inundate the trail and view points. To me really takes away from the beauty of the place when are trying to enjoy it and people are jostling to get past you to take their millions of selfies. It seems that many would rather take pictures of themselves there then taking in the beauty of it all.

The view from the top is of course spectacular, but this is not a hike. Just a short climb up a series of rock staircases.

Not much of a trail but rather a great picture spot.

OMG - will get up early to go here vs. Lake Louise - how I have never visit here in all of my 20+ years as an Albertan. Epic. Will definitely come back to visit

People are right, parking is hard to get there early. The view is also the best in the morning. It’s an easy short hike, though some children and seniors may find it difficult. There are good views from the bottom of the pile so even those with physical disabilities could enjoy the view of moraine.

Parking is a bitch. So I started to walk the 12km road. Got picked up by a french couple. Starting walking down got picked up by a German couple. Ppl are super nice.

The tip I kept getting was to arrive before 7 am, however the lot fills up by 5 am and stays closed a good portion of the day. Allow yourself a couple of tries to get in. When you finally do, you’re rewarded with the most unreal view for a short hike. It’s worth battling the crowd to get in and if you try, you can find a quiet spot.

A nice view of Moraine Lake, but there are better views available on the Shoreline Trail.

My favourite Lake in the Rockies! Try to be there before 9am; if you can manage it it’s amazing to have breakfast at the viewpoint. The trail takes only 5 min. Don’t forget you’re Camera.

Worth the effort. Incredible views, esp of the valley behind the lake.

10/10 views. Lots of steps. Sooo many people at the top, but you will get why, as the view is magnificent. scramble down some rocks to get picks without 100 million people in them. the color of the lake is un like anything. Watch out for thieving chipmunks.

A very busy but short easy hike up stone stairs to the top. In order to get pictures with no one in them you will have to climb over the stone wall and down a few of the rocks. Once you pick a good spot you won’t have any worries about getting people or trees in your picture / view.
