10/10 views. Lots of steps. Sooo many people at the top, but you will get why, as the view is magnificent. scramble down some rocks to get picks without 100 million people in them. the color of the lake is un like anything. Watch out for thieving chipmunks.

A very busy but short easy hike up stone stairs to the top. In order to get pictures with no one in them you will have to climb over the stone wall and down a few of the rocks. Once you pick a good spot you won’t have any worries about getting people or trees in your picture / view.

I went on June 14th at around noon. Bit of overcast and sprinkling rain, but the water was still unbelievably blue. Went on this short hike with my 5 month old, 11, 7 and 5 year olds. Not very busy till after 2pm.

Very easy and kid friendly trail but can be extremely crowded/busy so avoid perk times.

Breathtaking! But GET THERE EARLY! We thought 7 am on a Thursday would be early enough but no parking available and about 75 cars lined up waiting. Maybe this was because it rained earlier in the week and this was a cloudless blue sky day but we waited for about two hours. However it WAS worth the wait. And the rock pile is definitely the best view. Astoundingly beautiful!

Fun to hike the rockpile & definitely changes the views of the lakes. Totally worth spending some time here at sunrise or sunset to avoid the crowds. Easily accessible & wish we had spent more time planning an actual hike but this was an incredible substitute.

Very, very easy walk to the top of the rock pile. The higher up you are, the bluer the water is. Beautiful lake with mountains in the background. Tour buses begin coming in Around 9-10 am. This makes this spot VERY crowded. We got there Around 7:30 and there was plenty of parking. At the overlook, you can go down closer to the water for some excellent shots of the lake. We probably spent about 30-45 minutes at this location.

6/20/2018: Probably the prettiest lake in Banff. Getting there early (8:00am) helped, but parking was still tough. However, it was certainly worth it! I went on to hike the Eiffel Lake trail that starts at the same point and got to see the lake with full sun on the way back.

Agreed with the below post. Far from it being a ‘hike’. There are some trails in the area that most tourists don’t go on. You get the iconic picture from this spot and get trampled by a ton of folks.

Not a hike, but worth the time. Man made stairs with several gorgeous view points of Lake Moraine. Parking lot gets crowded, was full by 8:30 am. Rock pile gets crowded too. Do the lake shoreline trail while you are there, it's easy and barely anyone half way in. Wanted to do Sentinel but it was not recommend by the parks website.

The trail is simple but the view from the top of the rock pile is breathtaking and worth the quick stop!

The view makes navigating the crowds worth it. If you plan on going early to avoid the crowds know that you will be seeing the shadows from the mountains in the water. You will not have the pristine turquoise water until the sun is over the mountains.

Must do photo op. Make sure you go very early in the morning to get there when the sun comes over the mountains. Not as busy and great light.

Obviously if you are there, you should do that. It's very crowded but the lake is very nice.

This is a must do! It's really easy but the views are some of the best and most famous around. Chipmunks live amongst the rocks and are it scared of humans.

There is a trail that leaves from the parking lot, near outdoor restrooms that walks up to the view. Climbing the large mound of rocks isn't necessary so don't make the same mistake I did! This view is spectacular and should not be missed.

Fun trail and very busy but worth it for those looking for an easy rock scramble hike.

Arrive early if you would like to park close to the rock pile.

Arrive at 7 am or earlier, not only to get parking, but to get some quieter time at the lake. Kids 7 and 9 had fun climbing up the rock pile, but we took the path to get back down (although they wanted to climb back down). Moraine Lake in the morning is the best thing in all of Banff. After the rock pile, recommended to hike around the lake and then even rent a canoe, for more spectacular views.

You can climb up the rock pile and then come down the path trail afterwards! More fun this way! Nice view at the top, LOTS of people! Moraine lake is such a stunning view! Takes about 10-15 min to climb up? Maybe 10 min to walk down the trail.

Arrived 7am and caught last of available parking spots. Incredible views!

Insane view of Lake Moraine and the Rocky Mountains. Wear proper shoes so you can climb the rocks and cross the dam safely.

A short jaunt to see one of the most spectacular scenes on earth! Wow!

A quick, easy, and highly rewarding view. I go back to Moraine Lake every time I'm in Canada and next year I'll be bringing my hammock to enjoy the view away from all of the tourists. You can also climb up on the giant rock and get some views above the tourists taking photos on this path.
