Checked out where this loop is supposed to end, and there’s no trail there. The AllTrails path is located on the side of a very steep, muddy and rocky mountain. At the exact point where AllTrails tells you to deviate from the Source of the Springs trail and start ascending, there’s a sign that says do not climb. Hike the Sulphur Skyline Trail instead out & back.

The hike up and down to the summit (starting at the trailhead) is a moderate hike! Very doable inclines up to the summit with nice views. This portion of the trail has a bit of traffic - head out early to avoid crowds! The loop however, is NOT a moderate hike. It is very difficult. The latter half of the hike that makes it the loop is a SCRAMBLE. You spend a significant amount of time on rock face and working your way down steep and slippery rock face and forested areas. It is not for the faint of heart. Experienced hikers - I’d recommend only doing if the weather is nice and has not rained recently. It would be very difficult and in many instances, unsafe to do the loop and scramble if it’s slippery.

The weather was nice when we did it last time. The scramble at the end wasn't hard at all.

Do the out and back version and skip this loop unless you are very experienced. Steep, slippery, difficult decent with a lot of scree and high probability of losing track of the poorly marked path.

The trail is still muddy, icey and snowy but is being trampled down quite a lot. bring good shoes, pants and mitts. Otherwise, great trail to hike for a morning

A fairly arduous climb of about 100’ per 1/10th of a mile but great views from the top. Didn’t do the loop just returned the way we came up. After the hike we soaked in the Hot Springs.

Really don't recommend the loop unless you are experienced. You will need to traverse/decend scree and pathfind at many points on your way down. A great way to add a bit of extra challenge for experienced hikers, with the entire trail to yourself. If you're not an experienced scrambler, I'd highly recommend sticking to the trail you came up on.

No good views today due to the smoke in the air. We tried the loop, but the trail was to steep, very small and too dificult for us. We turned arround after a half hour and took the normal trail back. Maybe it is better to do the loop counter clock wise.

Stunning views at the top once you put the effort in to reach it. Totally Worth it. You should start early as it gets busy in the day

First to Review

This is one of the premier trails in Jasper National Park. There are few places where you can get above the treeline so easily. The view from the top is spectacular. Most people do this as an out and back to the summit, but it is possible to do as a loop as shown here. Be aware that it does require a bit of route finding near the top on the way down to avoid cliffing out.
