CAUTION: Take care crossing Oldman River; back off if the river is too high or fast. A hike featuring a river crossing to an active fire lookout at the summit of Thrift Peak. Note, there is a steep dropoff over a slabby rockband just just east of the lookout. Either turn back here, or continue on south on an off-trail scramble along the ridge to the site of the Old Livingstone Lookout. After reaching the former site, evidenced by two foundations, continue south approximately 1.2km to a saddle, then drop to the west on fairly well-defined switchbacks. The trail descends into forest in a northwestern direction and comes out at Oldman River opposite a coral. From here, choose a safe place to cross and return to the forestry road.
