This was a great area! There was fresh snow over a packed-down and clear trail. It was easy maneuvering and there are many options for routes to follow! We visited on February 29-2020. We did not have micro spikes and did not need them, but I would recommend gaiters.

beautiful trail, came in the back way through devils gap. backcountry spots were very nice and provided more than expected. saw a Grizzlie on shore across the lake in the LM22 spot roughly. also saw various birds, deer, a yellow snake and a pheasant or grouse, went quickly. I will be doing the full loop at some point as it was very beautiful and clean and a much nicer hike than the rocky devils gap section was. be respectful and pack out what you carry in. parks Canada has trail cams out and will most likely have you on cam.

First campsite is further up then the provided GPS, bad storm blew in had to clear bush and set up makeshift camp. Lots of predator tracks make sure you travel in groups

This is a different feel than the other lakes in the area. We only went to the wooden bridge and back. Pretty but if you are short on time, it is one you could skip.

Trailed closed after the bridge. Not much of a hike but the scene is beautiful

Liked the start of the hike - beautiful lake! However we got scared off just past Stewart Canyon with the grizzly bear sign. We were a party of 3 including a 9 yo. No bear spray. Even though the restrictions don’t go into effect until 7/10 and it was only 7/2, it was too close for our comfort. Would have liked to have gone further. We went about 1/2 mile on the trail that hugged the river canyon but it didn’t really go anywhere. Another time.

Part of the trail wasn’t open so only got to see half of the lake. A little disappointed because the initial views of the lake are incredible.

Wir sind um 09.00 Uhr losgelaufen und hatten die Strecke bis zum Campground lm08 fast für uns allein. Tolle Aussicht, guter Weg. Inklusive zwei Pausen haben wir 5 Stunden gebraucht insgesamt.

Honestly a must see! The lake was so gorgeous. We walked maybe 5K around the lake and went back. You gotta check out the amazing views.

Great hike, nice views. Fairly crowded at beginning of trail, saw a grizzly and would of walked right into it had I not been paying attention. Just cause it’s a popular hike doesn’t mean you don’t need bear spray.

We only went up to the wooden bridge. It’s a nice and relaxing walk, like in an urban park. Nice views of the lake and the mountains. The canyon looks wider than other canyons, more like a creek. This was Jun 6th at around 5 pm, cloudy and it was calm with few people left, we had the trail to mostly to ourselves.

Great hike into M8 campsite for an overnight stay. Started in the rain and then cleared up. Trail dired up nicely. Campsite has clean dry toilet and bearbox for food storage. stunning views and a busy hike back with lots of mountain bikes and day hikers. One small black bear, ginger in colour about 200m from us 4km into the hike. It sems like it was down at the lake for a drink.

An easier hike with nice views. not many ups and Downs. the trail gets repetitive. Hiking the trail for a couple KM after Stewart Canyon has the satisfying views

The view of the lake is spectacular...I was lucky to take some nice photos in a sunny-cloudy day. Make sure to stop after the bridge to view the lake kind of from the top (good for photo shooting). You will feel the spirits of Minnewanka! :)

Didn't end up doing the entire trail. We only got to the bridge (Steward Canyon). I'd reckon it about a 2 km in (at most) to the wooden bridge and then back. I went with older parents with bad knees and they were able to do it. Pretty easy up to that point. Nice views of the lake. We ran into about 10 people (one couple hiking with 2 young children and 2 mountain bikers) on the trail on a Friday morning around 8 am.
