Beautiful hike, great place to see a moose. Lots of lakes and creeks to fill up on water. The last 8 km it’s through thicker bush, the trail get smaller and lot of tree roots stick out nothing to intense. The tent spots are layer out oddly, I would say number 6 is the best spot to pitch the tent.

This is a good trail if you want to escape the crowds. The trail begins with a temporary bridge that makes the first creek crossing easy (the permanent bridge has collapsed). After a short distance, however, the rushing cold creek overflows the rocky roadbed; high boots or water proof footwear is recommended as the water covered area can be larger than it is currently. Beyond this creek crossing the trail improves considerably past Beaver Lake and to the second lake with periodic gravel sections that are currently dry. The forest opens just before the second lake which is stunning. The nonofficial trail along it through a meadow of wildflowers continues at the far end around the logs and on to a third lake (First Summit Lake?) where more wildflowers and a vista of mountains makes for a beautiful lunch spot. We did not go further to Jacques Lake. Wildflowers were blooming everywhere. Elk and bear scat along the trail, birds and a bugling elk near Beaver Lake.

Very enjoyable backpacking trip. The trail to the campsite is great for beginner backpackers who are physically fit. The trail is clear to follow and undulates rather than being steep in any one area. The campsite has benches, fire pits and food hanging buckets to protect from bears. Plenty of spots to collect water along the route so no need to haul too much. Expect the walk to take 4-7 hours each way depending on fitness & pack weight :). Quite technical in some spots due to mud and rain. It felt like 15 km with all our alternate routes taken to stay out of mud to Jacques lake. Very beautiful hike and campground. Saw no wildlife. Log book at campground said many saw moose.
