A walking tour through two parks Gold Bar and Capilano Parks share a border and a very pleasant riverside walk. Gold Bar Park was created in September 24, 1973, and its main industrial tenant is the Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant handles the wastewater requirements for over 820,000 people in the greater Edmonton area. It is a world class facility yet it manages to co-exsist well with the parks surrounding its boundaries. Capilano Park was established in 1964 and both parks, like most of the parks in the region, have coal mining in their histories. This walk starts in the Capilano Park parking lot and takes you past the Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant and down to the riverside trail. Then you loop back along the riverside and into Capilano Park through the main picnic area. As you loop around the plant and enter the riverside trails, you are on a gravel path that is very popular with residents. It is also a dog off leash area by the river, so be aware of wandering pets. Walking along the riverside, the plant is barely noticeable and you'll come to the boat launch under the pedestrian bridge. This can be a busy place with vehicles and boats always on the move. You then head uphill into Capilano Park again and entering the main picnic area. This is a nice short walk and the only place where there is elevation changes is where you re-enter Capilano Park. You can always take the road back up to the parking lot by the boat launch if you wish to avoid this.

Beautiful especially in October . Surrounded with trees, quiet and peaceful!

This trail would have made 5 stars for the scenery and level of walk (for a very overweight beginer to walking for weightloss and health). But the stench is soooo horrific at times on the trail that I will not be coming back.
