Forested trail leading to a viewpoint overlooking Sibbald Flats.

I followed Eagle Hill, went up the very steep hill around the loop and followed the well traveled trail back. Somehow ended up on the highway so next time, stay left.

Pretty decent hike! We got seriously messed up at the start and wandered around on cowpaths for a while. We should have stayed low instead of going up to the lookout bench. After that is fine. Bit of a grind up a cut line but the top was very nice. Walking through pines down to edge of Sibbald Flats. Took our old dog.

What an absolutely fantastic hike. The weather was perfect, and aside from 2 other couples, we were the only people we saw for almost 4 hours. The hike was moderate, but offered many wonderful views and a vast assortment of wildlife, game trails and tracks, and flowers and foliage. Although the signage is plentiful at the head of the trail, you have to keep your wits about you when venturing to the Deer Ridge 'summit', as we were turned around a few times, turning the 6 km hike into a 7.5 km hike lol. All in all we honestly couldn't have asked for a better place to find some peace outside of the busy city. We'll be back for sure.

Decided to do an easy hike for the day. We took a couple wrong turns at the beginning but ended up were we wanted to be at the Deer Ridge summit. Very easy hike with a decently maintained trail. Definitely some fallen trees on the trail at times but always easy to get around.
The loop we did was around 8 km total, under 300m elevation gain and it took under 3 hours with all our stops for viewpoints and caching.
It was a good first hike of the year and it's only an hour from Calgary. Now it's time for the fun ones!

Fun! A very nice view point considering your only on a foothill.

Still a bit of snow/ice on the incline, but was manageable with shoe spikes. Excited to do this hike again when the ice on the pond melts and the plants bloom!
