The Consolation Lakes Trail is a beautiful and scenic hike that begins from the parking lot at Moraine Lake.
The trail stemmed off from the Rockpile Trail to the left, just before the climb to the top of the rock pile. This 6 km round-trip hike started off by passing through a very rocky section where there was even some avalanche debris and snow piles along the path! The trail then entered into the forest and continued there for the remainder of the hike on a fairly flat path with some short uphill sections but then very little elevation gain after that.
At the end of the hike, the path emerged from the forest and opened up to a stunning rocky landscape with Consolation Lakes in the distance beyond the large rocks, a peaceful river flowing from the lake, and gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains, sheer vertical cliffs, and tall jagged peaks. There was also an amazing view of the Fay Glacier at the far end of the lake. I felt so close to the mountains and even heard an avalanche. It was a fun challenge to climb over the large rocks in order to get closer to the lake. I enjoyed a snack while sitting on the rocks and enjoyed appreciating the incredible views all around me.
This hike was very rewarding for such a short and easy trail. Parking is limited at Moraine Lake, so I recommend arriving early (7 am or so) to ensure you get a spot.
One of my personal favourite spots! Nature at its best! Hike was easy and rock climb was a fun challenge. We started this trail early evening and basically had it all to ourselves. Love. Love. Love. Would 100% recommend.
Pretty walk through the woods. A tough scramble at the end to get close to the lake. The lake itself was nothing special. Especially after just seeing Moraine Lake!
Beautiful hike and view of the glacier!
Easy hike through the woods. The only real challenge is the rock scramble at the end if you want to get right up to the lake or hike around it. The rock scrambling was my kids favorite part.
Nice easy hike away from the crowds of the parking lot and stockpile.
Easy stroll without much challenge but still enjoyable.
Very nice hike early in the morning. Saw a grizzly with two cubs on this trail near the lakes. Must go early as after 9:30 it’s very busy.
Once you reach the end - go on top of mountain to reach the glacier - fantastic view of lake and surroundings from there.
Great trail. Not too tough but the boulders add a lot of interest and skill-testing. Gets you away from he madness of Moraine Lake and out to a peaceful and quiet oasis. The creek/river that parallels the trail has some spectacular little chutes and falls. Super for photos.
Scrambling over boulders and watching a beautiful mountain lake. Could sit here all day.
Nice walk through the woods, the lake is cute
Great hike mostly under the forest canopy. Elevation gain is early on in the hike. Trail ends in a picturesque valley at a scree field. Views of the lakes are minimal unless you hike the boulders here.
Easy hike but proper footwear helps for the scramble at the end to get to the lake. Minimal bugs and wasn’t very crowded today.
Easy trail but worth the views at the end. It’s a great place to hang out in the pools for a picnic!
Beautiful! Easy compared to most trails in Banff. Gradual incline and gradual decline. Rocky at some points and is reported to be more likely to see bears. I didn’t see any, but I can definitely see why due to the scenery. Ending is beautiful. Slow moving stream with a view of a lake and a glacier.
The trail was easy to follow and mostly flat, the veiws were beautiful and the rock slides at the lakes were a lovely spot to rest and have a bite to eat. Very minimal bugs on the trail, but as soon as you stop they find you!
An easy, flat hike that leads to some lakes which are covered with boulders which you can climb on. The scenery is a lot of fun and breathtaking for such an easy hike.
very easy and so beautiful!!!!! I'll go there often for short walk. Nice trail to do in rainy day.
Did this hike after Moraine Lake Rockpile. Nice clearing at the end with very nice views. Definitely worth it.
Très belle trail facile
Le consoltion lake avec les montagnes tout autour donne une vue splendide
Prend environ 1h30 roadtrip
Don't waste your time, there are much nicer hikes around there. It's a very easy stroll but there just isn't much to see.
Short and easy hike with good views of the lake at the end.
Great rainy or snowy day option. We were initially a little disappointed that we were unable to do our planned hike due to weather, but what can you do when it snows in the mountains? If you said 'stay inside' that would be incorrect! Go out on a lower elevation trail like Consolation Lakes! It's a very pretty trail, easy and a short distance so it's still safe when it's a bit wet or snowy. Of course I'm sure it's far prettier on a sunny day but we still really enjoyed it in the snow.
Moraine Lake is so spectacular. This is an easy hike, after you get past the stretch of boulders early in the hike.
Beautiful easy trails for all levels. Rock pile and scrambles add challenge towards the end of the trail to get to the lake. Watch for falling rocks from the nearby mountain but the view is totally worth it. Very calm and not many people were on the trail when we went.
simple hike & the views were STUNNING at the end! Unbelievable. We will be going back for sure.
Great trail for a group...nice and wide and fairly easy incline and terrain. Wear good shoes because once at the lake you'll want to explore the boulders and it's far enough from Moraine that it would suck to walk back with a sprained or broken ankle.
A beautiful wide easy trail! There are beautiful sights to keep you entertained throughout the trail- from the raging river to the dainty wildflowers. I hiked this with my 10 and 7 year old boys and it was no problem for them, other than them wondering if we were ever going to get there. The lake at the end is the reward. Although this is an easy level hike, proper footwear is a must.
Easy trail to a beautiful rock strewn valley and lake. Nice hike away from the crowds.
