24 Aug 2020 - Hiked loop upslope on steep option and downslope on switchback through forest. Trailhead sign says Westview. Not a bad alternative to the out and back if you prefer loops or if you have already done the out and back. Descending through the steep option would have its moments in terms of a bit of route finding and getting through some crappy scree above a cliff band. However, if you can deal with that, going up on the nice graded switchback and then down on this much more direct descent could be a good option.

Do not attempt the scramble unless you are very experienced. Us “experienced” hikers had to turn back, but the views before the scramble were still amazing!

Road to parking lot is easy to get to with signage posted. Hike was a nice and easy but steady incline full of switch backs. There is an outdoor porta potty around the halfway mark of the hike which I found interesting. Very windy at the top with amazing views. Beautiful hike and not many people on trail.

The trail was a ton of fun with great views. Had a good amount of incline mixed with flat paths so you weren’t struggling. Recommendation to do the loop in reverse as going down the scramble is pretty steep and you lose the trail. Highly recommend this hike! *side note: We saw 3 ambulances, 2 Fire Rescue trucks, 1 RCMP, and a Search and Rescue Helicopter on our way down. So I’d recommend downloading the map just in case you follow the wrong path*

We were heading to the Eagle mountain summit. Nice route with good trail in the forest beyond the wood cutting area. Some bushwhacking beyond the fork in the trail at/from the ridge. the trail to the ridge top goes left here, but the route forward to the mountain summit is very feint but the summit destination is in view here just head for it.

We took this route backwards. We hiked with a 4, 6 and 9 year old and were amazed they made it all the way up. The trail was wider than I expected and a nice grade for a family hike. The down we had a minor issue getting through the cliffs, but again to our amazement, the kids made it all the way down. If you go down the steep route, start left at the start and your find a better way through the cliffs. Well worth the effort, we had amazing weather.

I went the wrong way and that scramble was too steep to go down for my liking (& hiking solo). Retraced my footsteps for an out & back

Very steep. We got stuck in the scramble and couldn't make it to the top so we had to turn around and slide down. Maybe better for people who look for a climb.

I took the direct route up towards the main summit. The route is obvious right to the top. Follow the well worn footpath and the cairns to the summit block. Very minimal and easy scrambling required to reach the summit. Summit registry has a beer, tampons, weed? Etc. I jogged from the main peak along the relatively flat ridge to the other summit. There are weaknesses through the cliff bands that allow you to scramble to the second summit. I ran down the normal loop trail and was disappointed to see all the short cuts through the switchbacks. This is poor trail etiquette. Stay on the trail people!

Definitely a good climb the last 100 or so meters we lost the trail but wasn’t to hard to find our way back had to break out the rope for some of the loose sections. When we hit the summit we got about 15 mins of good weather then it started to hail on us so we took the long trail down lots of short cuts straight down though it really cut the time down all in all a great day of hiking

Very nice trail. Did the loop straight up (black side trail) to the summit and continued clockwise. The trail is very good but pretty steep. The last 150 meters to where the trails meet is a pretty fun scrabble but you have to be careful and it’s easy to lose the trail. Very nice views. Probably muddy after it rains. Amazing view.

We did the hike on Saturday. Weather was good. We started at the trailhead and headed counter clockwise. A fairly easy ascent. My 3 teenaged kids, my 61 year old mother and our dog was along for the ride. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole climb, the snowy/muddy ridge portion that was fairly flat, and the final ascent above the tree line. There was a slight rain at all the top sections and some pretty good wind at the summit. We came off the ascent trail and tried to find the last few km of the loop down (steepest part on the map), but got stuck on a very steep scramble with hikers below trying to head up. My group went back up to the ridge and I headed down and across to find the trail down. I encountered 5 hikers half way up the very steep section with no gear and “fashion boots/shoes”. They were hoping I had a better way up. Lol. I scrambled up. Be prepared to use hands and feet on this section. Loose rock makes it dangerous for climbers below if you are inexperienced or not checking each foot hold. I showed them a path up as I climbed it, and rejoined my group. We headed back from the summit turn of and hiked all the way back. Great hike both ways. The loop is tough n the way down in this direction. Easy summit in the other but the km get longer. As is always the mission, have fun and don’t get into trouble. We were 6.5 hours with an awesome lunch break at the first edge of the colesium, and a break at the summit to celebrate. We raced down the shortcuts here and there on the switch backs to get in front of each other. Very doable if you don’t try the full loop.

Great trail and pretty great views! Start at the unmarked trail if you're planning to do the loop. Trail will go straight up then there's a bit of a scramble, lost the path a little bit but if you go to the right, it should lead you to the main trail up. Coming back down was super fun, basically ran down on the switch backs. Round trip was just less than 4 hours with a few breaks here and there.

Some rock fall on the ascent but not a lot of snow (a descending climber suggested a helmet). Went with someone new to scrambling and they found the scramble section a bit sketchy. Descent was still pretty snowy but a snow-packed trail exists. Great views though and a fun shoulder-season hike!
