Start early if you want to avoid the crowds, like every hike this year. The climb to Chester Lake is rather easy, so lots of people go to Chester Lake and then back down. Not many people pass the lake, and if they do, generally turn around after the first of the three lakes towards Mount Galatea. I started around 7:30, so almost no one out there. On the way back, Chester Lake was packed, and the trail from there to the parking lot, didn't go 2 minutes before passing another person or group. At this time, the second lake is almost dry, and the third is completely dry. Although there was some amazing views looking back down the valley and across the distance to the mountain range on the other side of Smith Dorrien Trail.

Busy hike. Hate driving on this road, so bumpy. Big parking lot. Outhouse in parking lot. Beautiful hike up to Chester Lake. Decided to keep going to elephant rock and Three Lakes Valley. The 1st lake (after Chester) is big, the next 2 are up a hill but they are very small. It was a nice view at the top of the hill but the 2nd and 3rd lake aren't worth the effort. It was nice to have lunch at the 1st lake (we had it all to ourselves) when we came back to Chester lake was very busy.

Trail is wide until Chester Lake, and then narrow but defined until the first Lake. After that you're pretty much just heading in the direction of the end of the valley. Right now the last lake is totally dried out, and the second lake is at about 40%. It honestly isn't worth the trek passed the first lake- I would think earlier in the year this would change, when the lakes are full. We registered the elevation a bit lower, and the length a bit longer than what AllTrails has. The change in landscape is one of the most beautiful aspects of this hike, as well as all of the fossils along the scree.

HikingGreat!

Complete the Chester Lake, Elephant Rocks and the Three Lakes Valley. Lovely Date (+25°C)Hit the trails about 9:15, before the Labour Day crowds. When we arrived at the lake, only a few people fishing. At the Elephant Rocks, only 2 other couples and by the time we got to the Three Lakes, only 2 other couples. On return to the lake, it was packed. And on the trail back met several dozen others on their way up. SO glad we started early. Secondary Highway to the trailhead very washboard. Take our time to save your car.

HikingGreat!No shadeRocky

Good easy hike to Chester Lake. Did it this morning early to beat the crowds. Continued to Elephant rocks which were pretty neat then on to the three lakes valley. After the first lake it got a bit steeper and rocky. Second lake was very small and third lake is dried up. Pretty much hiking on scree and bedrock from just past first lake to the third lake. No shade from first to third lake bring sunscreen!

Good steep gradual incline to the first lake. We went up in an hour and a bit with our kids. Not too busy. You approach the first lake you travel through a burn with spectacular potential to use your panorama setting. And when you get to that lake? Wow.

We went on Oct 12, and were treated to a beautifully frozen Chester Lake. Pushing our way through knee deep snow, we pushed past the Elephant Rocks to the first lake of the valley. This and the other lakes are frozen over/covered with snow right now, but if you push through the deep snow and steep incline past the first lake, you'll be treated to an amazing 360 panoramic view, with imposing mountains behind and to your side, and an excellent wide open view into a larch filled alpine valley. One of the best viewpoints I've been to! We got to the second lake and noticed it had also dried up and subsequently been covered with snow, so we turned around. As noted below, Chester Lake is very busy, but the crowds really thin out as soon as you push onwards from there.

Excellent hike to the first lake and up the ridge to look over the lake and valley. Larches are stunning right now. Went to the second lake and it was dried out this far into the season so turned around. Had the first lake to us while we stopped for lunch, saw Goats and Sheep up on the ridge. Thankfully no one goes past Chester Lake so had the place to ourselves with the exception of a few small groups here and there.

Beautiful fall hike with all the reds and yellows. Worth continuing past Chester lake and elephant rocks up to the next lake where there are more larches turning yellow.

Still some significant snow patches higher up so only went to second lake. I'll be back to check out that third lake!
