Easy walk for us after a long hike the day before. Lots of mosquitos and horse poop on the trail. Bring bug spray.

Close to town partially paved / boardwalk trails. Some interesting signs along the way. Even though it’s just a short walking trail I’d recommend bear spray as they frequent this area, especially in the summer. Can access a few other trails from here such as sundance canyon. Soooooo many mosquitos in the summer

Not sure there is an actual "Cave & Basin Trail." There is a place called Cave & Basin with trails around it. This may be what is called the Marsh Loop. In typical government fashion, signage and markings are minimal to non-existent. Where there are directional signs for certain trails, there are no indications of distances. It's a very poorly set up trail network. You might be able to get information in the C&B visitor centre. It doesn't open until 11:00am; however, so if you want to get out in the morning, you're hooped. Pretty much a waste of time and effort.

Horse trail mainly - would take the paved trail straight instead if walking in this direction.

We walked the small loop at the bottom of the springs and that was interesting. We then attempted to go around the big loop by the Bow River and it was filled with mud from the horse trail. We had to turn back. We then toured the wooden trails above the buildings to learn the history and see the caves of the area and we really enjoyed that part.

Beautiful trail but overrun by horse rides. The half of the loop that goes by the river (the best part) is too muddy to walk through by foot.

The paved portion from the Cave and Basin visitor center to the river is pleasant, with wildflowers in summer. Take a few more steps and see the river... and head back the way you came. Cannot recommend the portion along the river: covered in horse manure and sloppy after rain. I recommend walking back towards the visitor center and viewing the marsh via the short path from the parking lot.

We went to Cave and Basin for a short walk. At first the path was paved and very nice but it soon turned off and turned into a horse trail. The path was full of mud and horse poop and was very buggy but the view of the river was amazing and worth it.

Nice views of the river, marshes and surrounding mountains but the trail is extremely muddy due to horses having walked there.

Great trail! Took three huskies on it and it tired them right out. The paved part was a little boring though

Super easy route to just get out of town for a while. Would recommend now that at the hot springs you can buy the heritage pass that gets you both access to the cave an basin springs and the upper springs pool. Good if your a tourist looking for an easy hike to experience the Rocky’s.

Not much to see here and is really kinda gross with all of the horse manure. Did see fresh bear tracks on a lookout near the river.

It could have ben a very nice walk with great views, unfortunately 80% of the trail is like walking on a minefield of horse manure. Be prepared for the accompanying smell as well, and don’t even think of doing it on a rainy day...
