Description
Waypoints (10)

The upper bank parking lot is closed from November to April so you have to walk 3km to it- see waypoints for lower parking lot location. Moderate trail winding through forest and old mining buildings and mineshafts towards the eastern face of Cascade Mountain. The official trail ends just above the rockpile and lake at the base of the cirque, but many choose a steep hike/easy scramble further up to the right of the cirque where there are amazing views of Lake Minnewanka from above the treeline (see cover photo). You will not be able to see the lake unless you attempt this extra part of the hike.

Nice hike. Steady incline the entire way up. Scramble isn’t technical but footwear with grip a must as some areas are quite steep and dry with little to gain traction on. Great views at the top.

Great trail. Moderately busy. Amazing view of Lake Minnewaka if you go to the end. Scramble is not technical.

It was amazing. I think this is one of my favourite hikes! Well-defined Trail. Beautiful forest, almost like something out of a fairytale. Magical. The terrain is so interesting - before you know it (with a bit of sweat and push of course) you’re at the rocky part. This is about 4.5 km in and I think this is the bit of scramble previous reviews are referring to.. although it isn’t much of a scramble really. Just walking through some rocks. The real fun is in the last km of the hike, where you gain about 250m of Elevation to the top and views of the lake. Because of the smoke we did not see much, but still gorgeous and worth the trek. If you have poles and proper boots- bring them. You will benefit from having them for this part of the ascent especially. It is very steep, but easy enough to come down given the well-defined trails and having poles. The trail is fairly obvious the whole way up, but download the GPS map if you want to make sure you stay on track :-) coming down seems to go very quickly and is a nice reward after a steady ascent.

Constant effort rewarded by great 180 degree view! Sadly smokey/cloudy day. Strenuous last 300 meters!

Started around 8am. Steady incline with good flat spots. The last 700m or so gets pretty steep. Decent view but it was smoky/hazy this morning.

Took us around 5 hours to complete. The trail is inclined from start but manageable. Last 20% of the trail has some scrambling involved. Poles recommended. Hiking shoes required to complete last 1km. Amazing views of lake minnewanka

Amazing trail! Definitely on the more difficult side of moderate. All uphill on the way there, and downhill all the way back. The view at the top, and the hike back make it all worth the work!

This trail is definitely worth the view. Did it all the way to the top with my 8 year old and her friend. Only part I found difficult was the scramble down. Make sure to have good grip shoes.

I'm not usually a fan of hikes that just go up and up and up, but this one was pretty gradual and had some variety to it so I really enjoyed it.

First section up to the base of the cirque is a nice wide, well traveled trail. It is a very steady incline with some steep sections that will get your heart pumping. The second section from the base of the cirque up to the view of lake Minnewanka is very steep and slippery in section due to loose mud/dirt. Take poles and have good boots/footwear! But the view from the top is amazing and worth the 1 hour effort from the cirque up to the viewpoint.

the trail is pretty much a steady incline all the way up with the majority of it being in the trees. towards the top it gets pretty steep so poles are great to help on the way up & especially the way down! pretty busy so go early to avoid the crowds!

Amazing Hike! Front half was moderate with some incline but great even for amateurs. The last 2 km of the hike included loose rocks, steep inclines and lots of scrambling. Proper hiking shoes and poles would be highly recommended. The views at the top were worth it but be prepared for a difficult climb up.
