Good hike to the border, the trail goes up and down, but there is no real elevation gain

Amazing hiking experience for those willing to do the work. The tunnel, rope and ladder were alot more tame than expected. Amazing trail and experience regardless. National Geographic got it right with this one.

Beautiful trail! Fairly moderate, but the last 2km can be pretty tough in the heat as there is still no tree cover. Both backcountry campgrounds are in beautiful areas. There are lots of opportunities to stop for lunch/breaks at little rocky beaches along the trail. Lots of gorgeous views on this trail!

Amazing hike took me my wife and two mini dachshunds 4 hours with a 20 min break at the half way point. It is not to challenging and moderate is a great rating. lots of rock beaches and a wonderful view of the boarder at the end. Will go again!

This is a great hike. I would highly recommend it! We went to the USA/CAN border and it was great! I would rate it as moderate only because of the length! Beautiful!

Hiked out and back from Waterton to the Canadian / US boarder. Well marked trail with some deep vegetation in areas. First half of the trail is through previously burned areas, therefore not much shade. Some of the climbs are a little steep but moderate rating is fair for this trail. Beautiful views of the lake and a couple of nice rocky beaches and docks on the trail.

Took the 10am boat from Waterton to Goat Haunt, Montana, and hiked to Kootenai Lakes and then we were about to hike back to Waterton when the US Ranger advised us the suspension bridge was out so we'd have to cross the river (right at Goat Haunt) on foot or take another boat back. He said the water was knee deep at the site of the bridge and mid-calf deep at the mouth of the river, but we found a place just upstream from the mouth of the river that was only ankle deep but then we had to bushwack upstream to the trail. All that added 50 mins and was not fun. Be aware you will get wet if you do this from Goat Haunt up to Waterton or if you are going from Waterton to Goat Haunt. Also, it's 14km one way. There are a few water views but not much. This hike has the distinction of crossing an international border but apart from that, and limited water views, it's not that exciting.

Easy trail, nice views of the Upper Waterton Lake and surrounding mountains. Two backcountry campgrounds - one at Bertha Bay and second at Bonduary Bay.
