Very nice. Mostly a walk in the woods with the odd view of mountains through the trees until you reach the lake, which is a sight to behold with mountains walling it in on most sides. On 12 April the trail was very well-packed snow throughout (often three feet of it) and with good tread on my boots I didn't need to put on spikes -- no ice anywhere. Elevation gain is much less than what's shown above: it's just 175m over the 5.1km to the lake.
Great hike on a beautiful sunny day. A bit uphill to start and then nice and easy the rest of the way. Lots of snow on the path, but as soon as you step off the path, you can easily sink up to your knees. A bit of slush on the way back, but the lake was worth it, and I would highly recommend it.
Great easy trail. Elevation gain a bit at the beginning, then pretty gentle from there to the lake. Trail is good right now - firm packed snow. Crampons and poles were handy. Bears are awake... saw the tracks, but not the bears.
Went on a colder day so the trail was completely empty, I read a previous review saying it’s good for small active children and I can concur my 3 small active children loved it very much ( just kidding, in case they read this review). This trail is great if most of your muscles have atrophied from quarantine it was a steady incline to the lake which is absolutely beautiful, it was still frozen solid so you can walk around no problem and the mountain behind is *chef kiss*. Crampons are a MUST they made the trail so much easier!
pretty easy hike. I took about 2 hours 45 mins we stopped had lunch and stopped for pictures. I am not super physically fit and it was not too hard
Very enjoyable hike. Did this with my dog and no spikes without an issue, although I’m sure spikes would have made it a breeze. Love the view at the top, one of those “pictures doesn’t do it justice” views.
Well compacted trail. Snowshoes would only be handy around the lake. The rest of the trail is well compacted. We only used spikes. Elevation gain is only around 200m. The trail forks at the 4.4km mark, both trails rejoin again in about 100m so It doesn’t matter which way you go.
Arrived at around 11:30 yesterday and plenty of spots for parking. Not too many people, maybe around 5 or 6 groups at the lake. Beautiful, warm, sunny day :) didn't use poles or crampons, but could see crampons being useful since the trail is pretty packed down and could get a little slipper at parts.
Great trail and feels safe for winter! although I’d love to see the lake in the summer as well. Took 2.5 hours round trip but we seemed to be going faster than most. Trail is well packed down and moderately trafficked. Don’t let yourself be intimidated by the elevation gain on AllTrails! My watch said it was about 270m elevation and that feels much more accurate to the hike we did.
