This hike starts off on the Waterton Lakeshore trail, which ends up in Goat Haunt, Montana.  As a footnote, in the summer months there are semi-weekly International Peace Park interpreted hikes, which are lead by both a Waterton Park and Glacier National Park ranger. These outings are extremely entertaining and informative, ending off with a boat cruise back to Waterton. After about 1.5 km (1 mile), the Bertha Lakes trail veers sharply north away from the Lakeshore trail. The trail becomes quite steep, specifically after the bridge that crosses Bertha Falls. The foliage is quite dense, and the trail switchbacks its way upward. Occasionally you can get a glimpse of Vimy Peak and Upper Waterton Lake. The trail ends at Bertha Lake, which is more scenic than most lakes in the region. A 4.6 km circuit of the lake is well worth the effort.

The trail on the westside of the lake is a little overgrown in a few places. Great hike overall, lots of up.

Really enjoyable trail. Most of the elevation seems to come after the lower falls (gotta be 20+ switchbacks). There are some really nice and secluded areas for a swim as you go around the lake. We left from Waterton around noon and only saw 4 or 5 people at the lake while we were there.

This was an awesome hike. One of my best ones. got out early and it was pretty quiet. Heading back it was packed with people at the lake and the falls. this is one I would do again. Great trail if you want to do some trail runnung as well. Can do this hike with trail shoes. No need for hking boots. Did the loop around the lake clockwise. Think its the best way to do it. Flowers and views were great.

The hike up was a little busy but only saw 1 other person during the loop, views were amazing and there is a nice open spot to stop for lunch on the northeast corner of the loop.

Beautiful trail. Loop was so nice we decided to run it twice. However the trail got too busy in the afternoon, crazy crowded going down. Definitely recommend getting an early start.

Easy to follow and sometimes quite busy. Some parts are steep but views are amazing.

Beautiful hike with breathtaking views! We had a bear on the trail, but it was docile and left us alone after a few minutes. Couldn’t get around the whole lake due to snow hiding the trail and A LOT of Bear sign. Bring good shoes and water. Very steep hike at times.
