Warning! To the summit views you take a 5.5km upward climb using Prairie View Pass and then we continued down using Jewel Pass then finishing with the Barrier Lake Trail which winds along the lake over the damn. If you are looking to summit this is a 13.5km hike, plus you could do the extra hike to the fire lookout. Great trail but it's more like a moderate 13.5km climb.

HikingGreat!

Very easy trail. This route is a road likely used by maintenance vehicles. There is a large power line overhead almost the entire way which really detracts from the views. The trail is well maintained and easy to find.

Not really exciting as the trail is just on the side of the lake. It is a nice bike trail though if you are looking for one.

I think folks get this one - as mapped - confused with going up to the summit. As mapped this trail is following a road that parks can drive so it isn’t that difficult and would be rated as easy for sure. If you follow this one you will get a bit of an elevated view of the lake but not much.

All trails distance seems to be REALLY off lately. Did this hike last Sunday and it was just over 11 Km’s. We went to the very top. A bit of a grind the entire way!!

Easy trail. Pretty views. There are spots to go down by the lake and cool off.

We were out here yesterday and parked in the parking lot across from the bathrooms and came back to our truck window smashed and my wallet stolen. It’s a costly reminder to keep everything out of sight and and not to leave anything valuable in your cars.

Very nice trail! Lots of wild flowers! Get there early to avoid parking far away, I got there at 8am and the parking spots were already starting to fill up.

Nice wide trail with gradual elevation gain and great views at the top. Super busy when we went, but because the trail was so wide it wasn’t really an issue except it was a little annoying and we had to park super far away. Go early to avoid the crowds.

it's recommended to do the trail counterclockwise, through Jewel Pass then Prairie View. Longer but more enjoyable and easier. If you're patient enough, there's a mini waterfalls waiting for you.

Great hike. I went with my 5 year old. The steady nature of the climb made it doable for her. I wished I had known how rocky the path was. It adds an element of difficulty for kids. Overall, it was great. Busy enough that I never felt alone but when we started at 10 we were not all squished on the path like ants on a log.

The view is nice. You'll probably need a bug spray. The trail is good for beginners as it is a gradual incline. It's also good for biking.

Fun trail! The elevation on here is incorrect; it’s around 600m or so. Was about an hour or so up then we decided to go down a different way, which added an extra 3 hours but it was a much more gradual decline vs. the steep portion before you summit. Good for dogs. Saw a few people mountain biking.

This hike is just the trail along the lake, if you want that candid shot on a cliff, that’s up toward jewel pass. We did this trail thinking we’d get there but instead climbed up through McConnell ridge scramble. Which turned out to be long and steep steep. So we found a nice spot off to the side to enjoy watching the sunrise. Would recommend this hike for sunrise, absolutely beautiful! But make sure to go the right way!

the background and pictures uploaded for this trail is misleading. 5 weeks ago we were trying to find that background picture in this trail. if you wanna see this view do the YATES MOUNTAIN TRAIL VIA PRAIRIE BARRIER LAKE LOOKOUT TOWER.

there is two different barrier lake entrances. we headed out for the interpretive trail but ended up at the main lake instead. was still a nice walk along the lake, can get busy at times. shore line very muddy and slippery. dogs loved walking near the water .

Not at all the trail we were expecting to hike on. Some of the photos are very misleading. Making it seem as though there is a gorgeous look out point as a reward at the end. The cliff and view above the lake in the photos is not on this hike. We hiked out a bit past the end of the trail, it just turned into a service road for the powerlines. That being said it still made a nice Sunday morning hike. We took the Stoney Trail on the way back. The trail takes you through the woods where there are so many trees, plants, and wildflowers to admire.

Good trail, not at all what we expected though. Steady inclines up on the way up. Quicker on the way down. This was not really a hike for leisurely afternoon. Prepare for a good workout. Heavily trafficked which we did appreciate.

This was my first hike. It was all up hill, levels out a bit throughout. I would recommend a walking stick or poles if your a beginner like me. You don't realize how steep it is until you come down! Beautiful views!

You want the Yates Mountain hike if you want to go to the summit for the views. This is not it. These reviews are very misleading. The picture needs to be changed.

For a first hike... I'ma be real it was kinda hard, but worth it in the end. I would recommend bringing a climbing stick if you are not used to hiking but overall great experience
