Better alternative instead of hiking underneath the gondola. Views are expansive and you are always in the sun. Some snow on the trail and got deeper the higher we went but no need for snowshoes. Steady grind up the hill but once there, oh so worth it. Got there in time for the North Lights luncheon buffet which was excellent!

Perfect hike! My girlfriend and I finished it in 1h30 without hurry! The end is a little harder but the final is breathtaking ❤️

Did this in Nov 2018. Way better than hiking up the gondola side of this mountain. The trail is wide, as it is and no longer used (fire?) road. Also unlike the gondola side there are views the whole way. It would be wise to leave a second car or a bike up at the gondola or upper Hot Springs so that somebody can ride down and get the vehicle left at Cave & Basin otherwise it is a $20 cab ride. Other peoples recordings of this hike include do not include the walk up Sundance to get to this trail head. The gondola is free in the winter so we took that down. My recording for one way from Cave & Basin to the top was 8.8 km with 933 m of elevation gain & it took us +/- 2.5 hours.
