We started at Maligne canyon and made our way down the Athabasca river. Instead of hiking a return route we brought a trail map and mapped out a little bit of a longer route that ended back at Maligne canyon. Walking along the water was beautiful and ending our hike through meadows and forest were a nice change of scenery!

Only walked to the falls but it looked like a nice hike. Lots of people even though it was raining an cold.

Athabasca River trail was fun. One shares parts of this trail with bicyclists and horseback riders.
For our bicyclist friends that share these trails, a piece of advice. Pedestrians have the right-a-way. Period....Your cheap bell does not announce your approach from behind a hiker. Yelling "get your hearing checked", does not sit well with a deaf person.

Super tame at first. Flat broad gravel path hugging the river and the highway on the other side. Not as secluded as I'd prefer. Dodging horse manure was off-putting.
