Having done this lookout from Hinton Nordic centre in the winter, we decided to hike it form Jarvis Lake today, May 19, 2020. And no regrets. The trail starts somewhat boring, with 2.5 km dirt road approach. If you ever to do it in wet conditions, make sure to wear a pair of waterproof footwear, especially for the second part of the road: it's muddy with deep puddles. And don't be fooled by the elevation gain. As soon as you leave the road, you'll start a steep ascent. It's a leg burner for sure and fun too .No snow today. We also walked to the plane site on the way back, which added 2.2 km to the hike (13.3 km total) but it's definitely something different. Five stars because the trail is one of the closest to Edmonton

We started the hike from the Lookout rather than Jarvis Lake. Steep (aka tough) at the beginning and the end. Be prepared. Poles helped. The plane crash, village, and gravesite made excellent human interest elements for reluctant teen hikers. With the plane crash added in, out and back plus some exploring, we did about 15k in 5.5hrs. (But you could do this in under 14k in less time!) Overall, excellent conditions, well-marked, spectacular views and interesting points of interest. Great family day hike. Kids even took a cold dip in Jarvis Lake afterwards. With two vehicles, one could easily leave a car at one end and just hike through.

Pretty steep climb in some parts but less than a km. Snow in some parts but mostly in pretty good shape. The view from the top is fabulous... well worth it!!

The first 2.5 km is a flat trail that looks like it could be used for cross country skiing. Then it branches off into the woods and becomes crazy steep and windy for 3.5 km all the way to the top. The views from the top are amazing but it’s a tough climb and it rained on the way down making it very slippery on the steep parts. There is a 2 km detour to see a crashed plane if you’re interested. The app screwed up and only recorded the last 3 km. The total hike with detour took over 5 hours to do 14.5 km.

Very nice view! Not to steep, a bit overgrown in some parts and a lot of branches to step over but it was pretty good for the most part.
