Athabasca Falls is located approximately 30 minutes south of the town of Jasper along the scenic Icefields Parkway. It is a place definitely worth stopping and exploring. The waterfalls are gorgeous and you can explore the canyon too. There is a network of paved pathways leading to various areas overlooking the waterfalls and viewpoints of the deep and narrow canyon. There are a network of paved pathways leading to various areas overlooking the waterfalls and viewpoints of the deep and narrow canyon. Athabasca Falls is a powerful and gorgeous waterfall with a stunning backdrop of forests, mountains and the river flowing through as huge volumes of water rushed down into the canyon. There are a few lookout points offering different views of the falls along the trails. The area can be quite crowded with some of the lookout areas being very small, so you may have to wait your turn in order to get up front and take photos. The pathways are interesting to explore and one of them leads through a narrow section between two walls of the canyon with stairs carved into the rocks. There are some great vantage points overlooking the river and the canyon to see where the water had eroded the rock to create caves and unique rock formations over many years. Athabasca Falls is a wonderful area to discover, admire the natural beauty and take plenty of photos. The parking lot is large and can accommodate quite a few vehicles. It would probably be best to visit in the morning during the summer season before the crowds of people show up. If you’re driving the Icefields Parkway, definitely stop here.

We extended this walk from the Athabasca Falls HI and went almost until the fire road. Broke trail in snow shoes after crossing 93, nice tack laid for snow shoes after crossing falls.

A must do in Jasper, the canyon is really cool and the river is amazing. Of all the falls and canyons we have seen during our stay in Banff Jasper, this one was definitely the most beautiful. Really short hike close to the parking lot. Well maintained trail with stairs and railing. Don’t miss!!

It's a must do. Very beautiful. There was some ice along the path but no black ice, you'll be fine in sneakers. It's such a short walk from the parking lot. Do it!

Absolutely beautiful

Decent falls, but nothing special. Extremely crowded as it's just off Icefields Parkway. Go early to avoid the tour busses and selfie sticks.

Paved walkways- as someone mentioned before not really a trail, but beautiful views of the falls. A few paths lead out to the river. Worth seeing!

Just a short walk from the roadside, and the falls are dramatic enough to repay you for stopping to see them.

Very impressive waterfall!! Definitely worth putting up with some crowds. Some of the pathways were former river chutes!

Not really a “trail” and probably one of the busiest places to see, but still beautiful.

Reviews are right about crowds, but if you continue upstream away from the “concrete” walkways then you can get away from everyone. We went along the rocks up towards a big boulder where we got a nice group shot. It was past the steel rails and the wood barrier where there is a memorial for a guy who past away from slipping off a rock.

Extremely busy and mainly concrete and still bars and people to be seen. I wish we just pulled on the side of the road and looked at the mountains. A waste of time.

Worth the stop despite the crowds. Beautiful waterfalls

Not much of a hike / totally crowed tourist overload - parking is not even really worth the trip / many more intimate waterfalls to find
