The Zona Sul is Rio's upscale neighborhoods, and the area of the most famous beaches, including Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. The Zona Sul is overlooked by the world famous Christo Redentor. The beach and neighborhood Ipanema gained fame from the bossa nova sound "Girl from Ipanema" written in 1962 by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius De Moraes. The word "Ipanema" comes from the old Tupi language and means "bad water", probably bad for fishing, since the waves, dying too close to the sand, push fish away. Ipanema is a kind of peninsula, a tiny band of buildings surrounded by the ocean and the lagoon Lagoa.

Not really a trail, it’s just the sidewalk along the beach except for the eastern end where you climb the rock. Excellent views from Arpeador. Lots pf places along the way to purchase a drink.
