La Fagne de la Poleûr depuis Baraque-Michel is a 4.2 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Malmédy, Liège, Belgium that features a great forest setting and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
The High Fenns is one of the most fascinating areas in eastern Belgium. Starting point of this hike through rough natural landscapes is the Baraque-Michel, which was built in the 19th century in the middle of the heathland. In foggy weather the bell sounded, the lost moorland hiker should bring back safely. Not everyone should hear the bell. On January 21, 1871, a young couple freezes to death near here. A cross is reminiscent of this tragedy. But it is September and our fingers are driving through the tall grasses, through which the warm morning wind blows. The route penetrates into a dense spruce forest, which still testifies to the attempts of the Prussian government in the 19th century to stimulate the local economy through forestry, as the soil was not suitable for growing grains. At the bridge of Beleu, you come across the Venn of Poleûr, roaming it along rugged valley slopes. The erosion has formed steep slopes, so that the way is provided in places with a handrail. The view sweeps over a landscape that illustrates in countless green shades what is meant by pure nature.

January 11, 2021Circuit sous la neige... Préférez débuter la randonnée par la droite. Cad en laissant la chapelle sur la droite. Points positifs : diversité du paysage, plaines, forêt, points de vue, hauteur, cours d'eau. Chemins tranquilles. ( préférez le faire un jour de se semaine... Car en plein week-end... Ça ne doit pas du tout être pareil !) C'est un super tracé, où certains endroits sont un peu sportifs ! Les paysages enneigés sont superbes. C'est une randonnée qui doit être toute différente sous le soleil durant les beaux jours ! Attention sur la seconde moitier de la randonnée : on emprunte un petit chemin qui monte assez fort dans la forêt, il faudra être bien équipé de bonnes chaussures de marche ! Car très glissant et ce, pendant +/- 2km. Points négatifs : sous la neige. Certains endroits sont étroits et très glissants attention où on met les pieds ! Il ne faudra pas se laisser distraire par le paysage ! S'adresse en temps actuel, météo neige, aux personnes aguerries. Beaucoup d'arbres sont tombés en travers les chemins.. Probablement le poids de la neige. Certaines branches cèdent sous le poids du beau manteau blanc... Être vigilant!!

First to ReviewEin See im goldgrünen Schimmer. Das Hohe Venn zählt zu den faszinierendsten Landstrichen in Ostbelgien. Ausgangspunkt dieser Wanderung durch raue Naturlandschaften ist die Baraque-Michel, die im 19. Jahrhundert inmitten der Heide errichtet wurde. Bei Nebelwetter erklang die Glocke, die verirrte Moorwanderer sicher zurückbringen sollte. Nicht alle sollten die Glocke hören. Am 21. Januar 1871 erfriert ein junges Paar unweit von hier zu Tode. Ein Kreuz erinnert an diese Tragödie. Aber es ist September und unsere Finger fahren durch die hohen Gräser, durch die der laue Morgenwind weht. Die Route dringt in einen dichten Fichtenwald ein, der noch von den Versuchen der preußischen Regierung im 19. Jahrhundert zeugt, die hiesige Wirtschaft durch die Forstwirtschaft anzukurbeln, da der Boden sich nicht für den Getreideanbau eignete. An der Brücke von Beleu stoßen wir auf das Venn von Poleûr, durchstreifen es an schroffen Talhängen entlang. Durch die Erosion haben sich starke Gefälle gebildet, sodass der Weg stellenweise mit einem Handlauf versehen ist.
