Werribee Gorge Circuit Walk is a 4.6 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is accessible year-round.
The Wadawurrung and Wurundjeri Peoples are the Traditional Owners of the region where the Werribee Gorge is nestled. This circuit is a beautiful route along the Werribee River and is well-signed. There are a few technical areas requiring some scrambling and a short cliff section with cables, but they’re not that difficult to manoeuvre. The area is generally heavily trafficked especially on weekends given its proximity to Melbourne, only one hour north-west. There are even some areas to go swimming to take in the picturesque gorge.
There are drop toilets in car park area with no hand washing facilities, and a picnic area with a fireplace at Quarry Picnic Area. Carry everything you need with you, and carry everything back out again to leave no trace of your visit.
There is plenty of parking along Myers Road with some more designated parking sections. Keep driving until you reach the marked trail head for the closest access (either way when you finish the loop you'll walk along Myers Road and pass each parking section).
Beautiful trail that was very well signed, found it very easy to navigate. Some light rock scrambling and a cable cross involved but feel like it would be very doable for most people. Highly recommend.
Absolutely LOVED this gorge hike. A fabulous mix of easy, moderate and moderately difficult...but oh boy!!!The views!! the place is magic and the short cable cliff section is awesome! we did it in four hours but had stopped for lunch right in the middle of the gorge on the river. It could easily be done in a shorter time. Do yourself a favour and visit this fabulous gorge.
Loved it. The hill near the end if doing it clockwise, is quite challenging with a 10kg pack. All up it was great fun.
Lots of great views, but some sections very challenging - especially in wet conditions when rocks and mud are slippery. In particular the track along the river will test novice bush walkers and one shouldn’t underestimate chance of serious injury on narrow rock ledges or close to cliff edges. I clocked it close to 9km and 3hrs walking. Could be done quicker but would be a pity not to stop and enjoy the views after all the effort to get to them.
Get there early as it fills up quite quickly. This is a great track for people who enjoy hiking. It can be steep and rocky in parts, but also very flat and relaxing in other parts. Allow 3 hours if you are going at a medium pace. There is one part where you scale rocks with cables, one part with no cables but it’s short and doable. Overall very enjoyable.
Great views, rocky track at points but not too difficult. Particularly enjoyed the cable section, just wish it had been a bit longer.
