The walk starts at the Blackwood Mineral Springs Reserve at the far western end of the park, past the playground. Here there is a walking track that follows the river to Whale Bone road. Turn left and follow up to Martin street passing an old miners cottage. Turn right into Martin Street, walking for 200m to the Old Blackwood Road. Continue up this road  to the Yankee Road junction. Turn right and follow till you find the old Yankee Mine site. This is a good place to take a break and explore the site. After the break head south to the Yankee Mine Track and follow to North Blackwood Road. Cross the road to the Hayden Track turn right and follow to the Ruth Track. Head west along the Ruth Track to the North Blackwood Road.  Turn left on North Blackwood Road and follow to the Shaws Lake Track. Turn onto the Shaws Lake track and continue along this track till you find the Moonlight track on the left side. Follow the Moonlight Track which takes you back to the Blackwood Mineral Springs Reserve via a foot bridge.
