Short loop from the Garfield Waterwheel out to the Welsh Village. This is a short walk, ideal for introducing people to the gold mining around Castlemaine. You will pass very deep, old mine shafts, an old quarry and arrive at the Welsh Village ruins at the halfway mark where you can stopfor lunch. The way back is on more formed dirt roads and tracks completing the loop. Be sure to take water in the warmer months and wear good quality footwear. This is mostly an easy walk, but there are a couple of short, steep sections to watch out for.

Enjoyable walk, lots of interesting historical sites. Lots of roads and paths so can easily tack the wrong track. Using AllTrails app assisted us to stay on track.
