Permits required from October to May. During these months, the walk must be completed north to south and you will need to reserve in advance. Around 8000 people from all around Australia and the world walk the track each year. It is a challenging hike that requires good physical fitness. The weather along the route can be unpredictable, so bring cold weather gear and waterproof shoes.

Completed across 4 days in June 2018. The weather was perfect for 95% of the time. Gorgeous place, am doing it again in July 2019.

We did this hike in 4 days in November and it was awesome. Some rain and mist, but also a couple beautiful days. It’s pretty flat apart from the mountain and Pelion pass, a well maintained path for the most part and you meet several rangers along the way. Huts get busy fast, but the elevated camping pads are just fine. And if you camp, you can smell the lovely eucalyptus trees on the breeze... so nice. We were quite lucky and got the last two spots on the ferry- I’d recommend booking in advance if you can, or plan the extra day around the lake. We’re from Canada and both found the track reminded us of Canadian landscapes, so it felt like home away from home. The wildlife was so different, though! Many wallabies and even an echidna or two crossed our path!

My first overnight hike. Scenery was beautiful, weather went from freezing to sunshine to rain and back to sunshine. Met some great people, rangers were never too far away. Had some long ascends, mud, slippery tree roots & trees down around lake St clair (last day). Overall amazing!

I loved this hike! It was the first major one I’d completed but it has definitely left me wanting to do more. Facilities along the trail are excellent and there are national park rangers along the way if you need any assistance. Very enjoyable and beautiful scenery

This track had it all. we had rain, hail, sleet, snow and sunshine along with all the different terrain and scenery. walking through rain forest one moment and then open woodlands the next, there was never a dull moment. it was so challenging as a first multi day hike but also so rewarding. Not for everybody but such an amazing experience for all those who conquer it. Would highly recommend it.

Great track with much see and enjoy. Make sure you take your time to enjoy the side trips. Need to take wet weather gear because the weather can change rapidly.

Best hike I have ever done. Went 1-6 April. We had rain, gusty winds, sun, heat, cold, mud and lots of beautiful mushrooms. Loved it all.
