Wyaralong Dam Loop is a 8.5 mile loop trail located near Wyaralong, Queensland, Australia that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips.
This is a scenic bushwalk loop located only 1.5 hours from Brisbane up the summit of Mount Joyce with great views that lookout over the Scenic Rim. This is a moderately challenging route which requires occasional navigating and some bushwalking experience is necessary. There are also some steep descents so walking poles can be handy, otherwise sturdy footwear is a must for this trail. The area can get very hot too in summer so its recommended to choose your day according to weather and always carry enough water.
There is an option to camp at the Mt Joyce base camp.
Nice stroll along the shoreline and a great breeze along the ridges. Total of 4.5 hrs with a moderate pace and a good break on the summit. (Summit is pretty)
Pretty steep on the way up Mount Joy, but otherwise moderate. About 100 metres after the intersection between the service road heading to the ridgeline and Shoreline Trail, if you turn left to go along Shoreline, there's a nice unmarked trail to the left that goes to the shore of the lake - a good place for an early lunch.
Me and my mate really enjoyed this walk. There were plenty of birds to see and hear plus plenty of Kangaroos in the bush. We took the anti clockwise route and enjoyed our walk to the top of Mt Joyce. As a previous reviewer mentioned, we took the path to the left after the Ridgeline signpost then going to the top The downward trek was a little treacherous but we were glad we were going down than having chosen to go up that way. The views from the top are fantastic looking across other mountain ranges not to mention the lovely dam itself. We saw what I reckon was the largest kangaroo I have ever seen....he was a monster. I also spotted a pretty-faced" wallaby (see photo) The downward track is exposed to the sun so cover up
Fairly exposed track up, but excellent views from the top of most mountains in the Scenic Rim region (including Mt Barney, Lindsey, Greville, Superbus, Flinders Peak, Mt Moon, Cordeaux, Mitchell, Maroon and Mathieson). Highly recommend for the view!
Followed Shoreline Trail to Grass Tree Trail. Then left up the Ridgeline Trail to Mt Joyce summit. Nice views to at summit to Main Range and Mt Barney NP. Followed Ridgeline Trail back down to complete a circut. Track is fairly steep and easy to follow and well marked. Mostly just fire trails down the bottom with loads of lantana.
Really enjoyed this hike. We did this loop anti clockwise and missed the track initially which leads up to the top of Mount Joyce. Just after the sign which says Ridgeline trail there is a small unmarked track leading off to the left - that’s the one to take. There are reflective markers in the trees which guide you. The view from the top was beautiful. It’s a steep descent down on the other side of the loop. Walking sticks were handy.
