West Canungra Creek Circuit: Yerralahla Falls and Picnic Rock is a 8.2 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near O'Reilly, Queensland, Australia that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is accessible year-round.
This trail starts at the Green Mountains day-use area, and follows the Border Track for 600m before branching into the West Canungra Creek circuit trail. The circuit descends and meanders into the biodiverse Gondwana rainforest, passes Darraboola Fools and features the tranquil Yerralahla (Blue Pool). Eventually the route joins Box Forest Circuit leading back to the trailhead. It is recommended due to the gradient, to walk this trail in a clockwise direction only as indicated. Take care when crossing the creeks as these can be difficult to navigate after rain where the track may disappear - look for the orange directional arrows at these crossings. On West Canungra Creek eels inhabit the area and can also bite when threatened so be aware of your surroundings.
There are great facilities at the trailhead at Green Mountains day-use area. There are flushing toilets, electric/fuel barbecues (free of charge), and shaded picnic tables. This day-use area is the trail-head for several rainforest trails nearby.
Did it on Sunday the 22nd of November. started at 8.30am. Finished by 1pm. Less traffic. Chose the clockwise direction. Great walk. Great hike. stay hydrated.
Great hike. Beautiful waterfalls and waterholes, Go clockwise for a less strenuous hike. We went anticlockwise and it gave us a little more challenge ascent. We also diverted off track to take the Box Forest Circuit instead of the Box Forest Falls to get a little steeper ascent. But if you want to see all of the waterfalls stay on the track. Both tracks included narrow trails with steep drop-offs.
Absolutely beautiful, stunning! Plenty of waterfalls and pools. Will definitely do again.
walked in clockwise direction. downhill to start, then follow the creek, some rock hopping before gentle climb back to start. look out for eels in the rock pool at the bottom of the descent.
A beautiful walk in the forest. So loose dirt on track which made it slippery in places. Saw 3 red-bellies black snakes
Great walk with lots of waterfalls. Was a lot longer at about 17.5km if you go the longer route past Box Log Falls. Definitely recommend this walk though.
This was an awesome walk! Countless waterfalls along the way. Definitely one to take the whole day to do! it’s a bit muddy and there are a few creek crossings that require you to wade through the water. I definitely recommend waterproof hiking boots for this one.
It was a wet day - great not many people and lots of water in the falls
Absolutely loved this trail, I’d have to say it’s my new favourite! Managed to see a nice big red belly black snake sunning itself just off the track, but not much other wildlife. Nevertheless, amazing trail with HEAPS of swimming holes for the warmer months. Can’t wait to come back when it heats up! Our GPS tracker came out closer to 15 kms, we completed this hike in just under 5 hours which included many stops to enjoy the scenery and for lunch :) A must do!!
One of the challenging hikes with big rewards. number of river crossings, cliff edge hiking paths and breath taking Waterfalls. Remember to take a break and enjoy the mother nature. River crossings were easy; mostly because not much of rain your last few weeks. Navigate through big rocks to reach the bottom of the falls for a serenity view.
