Somerset Lookout via Somerset Trail is a 8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Mount Mee, Queensland, Australia that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips and is accessible year-round.
Beginning from the Gantry day use area this walk through open forest leads to the best viewpoint in D'Aguilar National Park. The Somerset trail passes through a mixture of scribbly gum, heath, and rainforest on its way to the lookout. From the viewpoint you’re treated to great views of the Somerset Dam, Lake Wivenhoe, and the endless stretches of horizon to the west. With a good level of fitness expect to take 3-4 hours to complete the walk and bring plenty of water.
Great afternoon walk. Took us 2hours 36mins to complete. We did it anti clockwise but easier if you do it clockwise. Carry enough water (I took 1L) View of dam is spectacular!)
Great trail easy to follow sign posts by myself went anticlockwise. The hardest part finding the beginning of the trail. When you see the map it’s to the right of it. Looks like a goat track and don’t head up the road and don’t head down the other track Piccabeen it doesn’t link up. Views of the dam are just glorious. Completed in 2h30mins hiking at a decent pace.
lookout was mind blowing beautiful not overly steep easy gradual walk to look out. kid friendly. not much water around so make sure you have plenty depending on time if year.
A nice easy walk with a few mild hills. Great view from the lookout. Lots of different animals and trees to see along the way, including a big lace monitor!
Great trail with impressive views and good sunset spot at the lookout. Could walk it in 3.5 hours at a pace. Pretty rough track most of the way and few sections of scrambling but a great workout.
Great trail. As a local I have had my eye on this trail for a while. Took a stroll on it today and I am glad I did. We walked it clockwise. My OCD doesn’t like anti clockwise! Take the trail left after 900 meters. For mine I think Clockwise is the best way to do this trail. The first half (going clockwise) is a bit more technical (tighter single trail) which I like to get out of the way upfront. There are some punchy little hills but nothing dramatic. I really loved the different types of bush that you venture through. As it was a mid week walk we only passed one other group on the trail. Didn’t say any cars or bikes on the crossings. Some of the views are just awesome. This was my longest bush walk to date and I loved it. It took us 3 hours including a short break at the lookout.
Scenic walk through varying types of forest vegetation. Some hills but not very steep. Pleasant walk in partial shade on a warm day. Minimal signage but enough to get by.
j loved this loop! it was an easier track but a good distance. each section had different vegetation and there were lots of different birds, wildflowers, trees and animals. the view of Somerset and the valley was absolutely beautiful. I would recommend! The drive up was really pretty as well. we went at dawn and it was all misty through the valley and mountains. stunning!
Fairly easy, pleasent 3 hour walk through open forests, and a lookout with fantastic views. Good consistent path and easy inclines.
