This is a great hike that is easy enough for the whole family. Beginning at Cunninghams Gap and nestled between the Main Range National Park and the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia this summit walk to the peak of Mt Mitchell provides great views of the scenic rim and Fassifern Valley. The hike up the twin-peaked Mt Mitchell can be steep and rocky in sections, and nearing the summit you traverse rocky outcrops and cliff edges that seem to drop sheer to the forest below. The views from the summit are simply incredible, and are more than worth the walk along the sheer cliffs. If hiking in the summer try to get an early start (in the dark) so you can watch the sunrise from the summit, you will absolutely not be disappointed!

Very nice walk. Track is quite scrubby. Brought 1L of water but would need more if doing this walk in summer. Absolutely great view when you reach top!

HikingGreat!

Very easy hike, I’ve hiked this trail a number of times it’s one I keep coming back to because of the scenery and it’s not a demanding hike. The views from on top of the mountain are nothing short of amazing and always different thanks to the weather. If you like to do hikes for sunrise in summer I would definitely recommend packing a down jacket/ something you don’t have to wear while hiking but it’s light enough to carry as you may need at the summit, It can get very windy on top and winter pretty much speaks for itself.

Lots of waterfalls - we counted between 14-16 so prepare to get your feet wet. Quite muddy and overgrown in places (but it had rained the night before). Great trail

Great trail, wonderful plants and trees and the views get better & better. Fairly steady climb up, slightly overgrown in parts & rocky steps a little slippery after rain.

Nice hike with amazing views from the top. If you are planning on doing Mt Cordeaux/Bare Rock on the same day, I recommend starting with Mt Mitchell as it is a bit more exposed.

HikingGreat!Muddy

Was a little bit muddy, and a few big fallen trees to climb over, but a good solid hike. I wouldn’t say a “family friendly” hike as the description suggests, unless you have a fit family! Definitely a moderate level of fitness at a minimum. Beautiful panoramic views of the valleys from the top, about 50/50 shade and full sun on the wall up. Lots of bugs and flies around, and a bit of stinging nettle close to the path so keep an eye out.

This is a lovely walk aling a nicw clean track with a gradual climb to the top if the world! Took me and my mate about 2 leisurely hours to go up as we stopped numerous times to see and hear the many birds. The views at the top are terrific and apt reward. Downhill was an easy 1.5 hours.
